Today I shoved a racist to the floor in a crowded restaurant.

I applaud you taking a stand like you did.

However be aware that violence can carry severe penalties. You are lucky the mo-fo didn't turn around and knife you.

Thank you for smiting the racist... but please think of your personal safety next time.

I may have missed this, but did anyone get your name/addy/phone? No? Then don't worry about the guy making too much of an attempt to press assault charges..

I'm sure you feel bad about losing your cool, as I would have too.. But at this point, you stood up for the greater good and need to focus on that.. Next time, take the higher road...

Anger can lead to making inaccurate statements made in the heat of passion, so for next time, NPR might be a better choice considering what they did to Juan Williams. ;)

Nah, no one got my anything more than my first name.

Thanks for the positive comments, by the way, everyone. And yeah, NPR ain't a bad choice...

In 20/20 land, after the idiots left, you should have turned to the manager and said "That was a hell of an iced tea", gave him a 10-spot and left.

Kudos for taking a stand! Injustice boils my blood, too.

Just try to think about the consequences before acting next time. Never escalate. That makes you the bad guy in the eyes of the law.

He should have put on his sunglasses before saying that, then "YEEEEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!" ;)

OMG... Spit take, I kid you not.. Thank God I wasn't directly over my keyboard... :guffaw::guffaw:

And then an old lady at a table nearby says to the manager: "I'll have what he's having...."

 I think he should embellish the story with that little flourish when he tells it from now on.

Seriously, would you rather every thread here were some variant of 'today I saw a monkey at the zoo and it was cute and furry'?

No, sadly (or fortunately) Jason is long gone.

I thought your post was fine and I think it's a good thing you did and won't even bust your balls for the "assault" you committed in the process. There should be more people like you willing to stand up and risk a night in jail for the sake of basic decency and a sense of community. What the employee did and was saying was unprofessional and inhuman. Screw him, be proud of yourself. You stood up for your fellow man and probably said what everyone else in the place was thinking. I wouldn't worry about any potential response from the other guy as I'm not sure how much the police are going to care about "this guy pushed me" nor do I think the guy is going to make a big deal over being pushed.

Good job... and what you did wasn't violent at all... you just pushed the arsehole back onto the ground, you didn't hit him or punch him, and I approve of what you did. The fact that these people were making a point to so loudly say such things in the presence of the black family hints that they probably wanted a more violent confrontation anyway.

In any case, the dishwasher guy has just begun to pay for what he did... now that he's fired, he can enjoy the two-plus years of being unable to get even a supermarket bagging job that I just had to experience, so it'll be a big burden for him. Good.

Hah!

Yeah, it seems the majority agree with you; too bad we can't please everyone. Thanks for saying so, though. I can get pretty defensive when people step up on my toes. They're very nice toes, I think.

Heh, well geez, thanks. I really didn't write all that earlier for a bunch of pats on the back but I'm not gonna lie, they feel good. Not because I'm self-absorbed or anything, just... they're nice reminders that the majority of posters on the TrekBBS value basic human rights and I'm just happy to be a part of that wave of good feeling.

What you did was noble, and I can understand it could be easy to lose one's temper in that situation.

Man, I hates prejudist people and all kinds of prejudism in this country. :D I'm so glad I don't live in the South and don't have to deal with all that crap.
