Anyone catch this on BBC? I just watched saturday's debut show on iPlayer and was really surprised how much I enjoyed it. I really dislike X Factor these days n BGT due to how fake the show feels and the early episodes are just cruel by taking the piss out of people who clearly have issues.

I do like how this show focuses on The Voice and not how they look, dance etc. Tom Jones is a right laugh too he just pulls out a story about him being with Elvis or something. I have to admit though Will I am looks lost and seems a tad stupid .

Will stick with this show anyone else see it?

I have not seen the UK version, but I do watch the US version. I really don't like singing/dancing competitions in general, such as American Idol or X Factor, and I gave up on America's Got Talent after the first season because it got silly, but The Voice does seem different to me. It has a little more credibility to it, and the three different "stages" of the show are unique (the blind auditions, the battle rounds, and the final live performances). I think the battle rounds are most fascinating; the coaches choose two singers from their team to go up against each other, and they sing the same song on the same stage. Some turn it into a beautiful duet, and others take the opportunity to try and "out-sing" their opponent. This is something you just don't see on other singing competition shows.

i thought it was good. i LOVED danny getting pissy about will.i.am's name-dropping, but he let's Tom's slide and then all Jessie J could say was 'I met Justin Beiber once'

i think the coaches banter and rivalry is what will keep me watching, but damn there was some good acts on there too. i also loved the first girl saying to Will that she wasn't interested in global #1s and stuff, she just wants to make her music. hooray, someone who's not supping the Cowell Kool-aid!

I saw quite a lot of The Voice Germany a few weeks ago and I found this almost exactly the same they even had and Irish singer. Over there they found the raitings fell off after the blind auditions.

Missed the start but I quite liked it. I liked how even the acts they all said no to they were really positive about, and I did like Tom and Will i Am (Your name's William damn it!) name dropping and Jesse J's Bieber comment.

I dunno, the best way to describe it would be nice, no bitchyness and even the coach's sparring was quite good natured. Makes a pleasant change.

It WAS rather good. I'm getting quite tired of Cowell-esque talent shows, and there's both talent and entertainment (and not in laughing at the mental cases way) in this one.

Plus I've been following the careers of a few of the US Voice contestants, and they've produced some pretty damn good music, so I hope there's a few like that that come out of the UK.

All of the judges were excellent too, Danny was suprisingly personable considering how much his music isn't, similar for will.i.am, he seems really fun. Tom Jones was class, and Jessie J wasn't annoying. Really good first episode.

When Sat night TV is asking you to pick between this and Britain's Got Talent, no contest whatsoever.

Yes, I've watched it, and it's much more enjoyable than the X-Factor. I just hope it continues to smash BGT with viewing figures.

Another thing I liked about the US version of the show that I forgot to mention earlier is that near the end, when they have the live performances, every time the song is downloaded on iTunes that is considered a vote. I don’t know why other singing competition shows haven’t taken this seemingly obvious approach. I actually think it makes it more fair, because instead of only having millions of 13 year olds with nothing better to do texting in their votes hundreds of times for the cutest guy on stage, this way they are forced to actually purchase a song, something they can only do once (or very few times, if they have multiple iTunes accounts for some reason), and something they are only likely to do if they actually like the song. Of course, they still have the texting/calling elements in there, but at least that’s not the only basis for votes. I wonder if this sort of iTunes voting will factor into the UK version at all.

I never watched any of those casting shows but must say I was surprised when I zapped by the Voice. It really is good...but still....who really thinks they're gonna make it big from there? One single, one album...where most of the money doen't go to the artist but to the Voice....and then that's it until some shitty comeback show in 5-10 years...

I have been meaning to check out The Voice but sadly it doesn't air in my country.

If you're into singing competition, do give The Sing-Off a try. Unlike others, The Sing-Off is a competition for acapella groups. I find that most singers in this competition can easily surpass most Idol and X-Factor singers and it is amazing when so many talented singers combine their voices together as a group. Just listen to last season's champions, Pentatonix covering Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know".

Second episode was alright, nothing I'm getting REALLY excited about yet. Well, the operatic teenage girl was slightly different, but of course, she didn't get through so...

The guy who did Dynamite as a ballad I'm not seeing the appeal of yet...

I'm sure there's a Xenia or Dia Frampton () among these, it's just a matter of time and training.

Another good episode but OMG I don't believe the opera singer was amazing HOW COULD she NOT get through

One thing I wish the BBC would STOP, would be to choose a better way of editing the show because the mini interviews with the singers before they went out gave it away that they would get through. When the BBC are filming then at home, at work or walking past a shop in their town obviously there through, ruins the surprise.

The show is more interactive than I thought it would be, Me n my little bro really get into the singing sections like hitting am imagining button on our couch I wish the BBC had kept the red button feature of blanking the screen so you can't see the singer until you press the button again or the singer finishes...a nice feature not used this week

The opera singing girl was good, but my g/f, who's a singer, pointed out that she was very raw and out of tune in places (she notices these things as would the coaches). I suspect the blind nature of the audition counted against her as well. I think the coaches assumed she was a lot older, I think if they'd realised she was 17 they'd have pushed their buttons because she has time to get a lot better.

There are other factors at play as well. The coaches have to pick 10, no more, so they're hedging their bets somewhat, and probably want a range of singers for their team--as Tom said, I though you were a girl and I've already got a lot of girls. In with this there seems to be a modicum of 'you go first' on several occasions when nobody turned round you could see some of them were waiting for another to commit first because if they press and they're the only one then they're stuck with them.

Well, a bit. But I like interesting music, and a variety of music and I don't find The Script all that interesting. Same with the other artists on the panel as well tbh, none of them are my kind really. But I like their personalities more than anything else.

Opera girl was clearly a victim of the show's format. Had she been on another show, she would have likely got through because of her potential.

The 10 max limits it a bit, but it's part of the format. It does mean only people who are a bit different will get through, and people with a standard voice won't necessarily, which will do wonders for variety. It does lead to interesting banter between the judges, which is good I suppose.
