Not just dates. Episode was specific about "slowing human progress" and at least 30 years of that happening back and forth with some degree of success since Khan's birth and presumably the technology to create him was delayed at least 20+ years.

Yeah, the Strange New Worlds explanation was perfect. It explained away any discrepancies between the original series and the stuff that came afterwards while drawing from established aspects of the lore. It's a perfect fit.
