Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

I always thought all the Connie’s were named after real life active/retired/destroyed navel vessels.

Not complaining or anything Peregrine just seems like an outlier.

Cross posting to save myself another Google search.

I may be overlooking one, but I don't think that a single ship newly referred to in SNW has a name with strong military-historical associations.

OK Folks.. here's what I got for Starfleet/Fed ships mentioned so far... I miss any??

USS Enterprise NCC-1701 Constitution-Class
USS Discovery NCC-1031 Crossfield-Class
USS Excalibur NCC-1664 Constitution-Class (Parker serves aboard prior to 2259)
USS Kongo NCC-1710 (Spock serves aboard prior to 2259)
USS Shenzhou NCC-1227 Walker-Class (Kyle served aboard prior to 2256)
USS Archer NCC-627
USS Yelchin (Heard in Comm Traffic Episode One)
USS Peregrine Constitution-Class
USS Martin Luther King Jr. (Una served aboard)
USS Angelou (Hemmer serves aboard prior to 2259)
USS Antares (Pike and Una served aboard prior to 2259)
USS Cuyahoga (M'Benga served aboard prior to 2259
USS Farragut (Chapel serves aboard prior to 2259)
USS Gallant (Uhura serves aboard prior to 2259)
USS Palenque (Ortegas serves aboard prior to 2259)
USS Yangtze (Starfleet Remembrance Pin)
SS Puget Sound (La'an was a Colonist aboard as a child)
USS Skylark (Dever served aboard in 2259)

Puget Sound was civilian transportation, correct?

From the "battle of the Binary Stars" in 2256 - which still haven't been IDed by name or catalogue entry number - we can add these:
USS Clarke (destroyed)
USS Dana
USS Earhart
USS Edison (destroyed)
USS Europa (destroyed)
USS Kerala
USS Ride
USS Shran (destroyed)
USS Sioux
USS T'Plana-Hath (destroyed)
USS Yeager (destroyed)

Maybe they're trying to square the "There are only 12 like her in the fleet" statement with the fact that we see a lot of ships that "appear" to be Constitutions. Perhaps the 12 have better equipment, sensors, warp cores etc. Built on a common hull design to save on costs/reduce maintenance requirements.

It may also explain the number of ships with NCC numbers lower than 1700.

Any idea why they bothered to make the Peregrine a different class and yet have it look identical to Constitution? Did I miss some difference(s)?
nope it's a pretty much a constitution with a smaller crew complement the only reason that i can see for the ''sombra? umbra?'' class is to ''appease'' the canon whiners/purists which is stupid af

Personally I think they just wanted to wink and nod to TOS with the vessel in distress looking liking the Enterprise just like Exeter, Constellation, etc.
However I guess it could equally be seen as a nod to Franz Joseph's Starfleet Tech Manual where there are multiple subclass variants of the Constitution family of hulls.

I thought that was odd too. And it would've been a nice nod to TOS by coming across a connie with an entirely dead crew.

The names of the two shuttles were seen in the briefing handed to La'an. One of them was the Galileo; I couldn't figure out the other name. Does anyone have a better read on what was said on that briefing?

There were specifications for the Peregrine. Maybe they will be released on Twitter and we can compare the two ship classes. The biggest difference so far is the crew complement - the Peregrine had a crew of 99 while the Enterprise had at minimum a crew of 203.
