They way I see it though is Shanks had a bigger impact with the show being good in the first place. The Jack and Daniel friendship was big part of the shows success and basically the chemistry between the whole team. I think if he wants to explore other chances that seems fine just like Anderson wanting to work less. They kind of earned the chance to maybe do something more personal after they contributed so much and then with Jonas it's not like they couldn't still bring him back or even transfer him to Atlantis. Their is that and I seem to recall back in the day their might have even been behind the scenes issues with Nemac because he was a scientoligst or something. I might be confusing that with Tom Cruise though on "War of the Worlds" were people were talking about him trying to brainwash Dakota Fanning. This was when people were really down on Cruise after the couch jumping, thearpy insulting stuff.

Space Race

That was better than Drive (VOY), even though Drive had better chemistry between Tom and B'elanna. This one I liked the effects of the course a whole lot better, and they tackled the themes of racism and corruption in this race story. Also, nice to see Scott McDonald as a human but every time he spoke I kept thinking Dollum from the Xindi Reptillian. This was 2003, around the same time as ENT season 3 so he was doing heavy make up on Enterprise and still did this episode. Not bad.

I also loved the cliche ridden announcers. They were fun.

I guess it's the feeling of telling Nemec they didn't "need" him anymore. It wasn't his fault one of the stars of the show left.

I suspect Nemec was only ever contracted for the one season anyway, so he'd know going in it was likely to be a one and done gig.

I don't have any certain insights since I rarely bother to keep track of the goings on behind the camera of any show I watch, but given the way things played out I don't buy into the narrative some fans seem to favour that there was some kind of enmity between Shanks and the producers. I mean for one, if that were that case he'd have been gone for good, and for another it's not like he was entirely absent . Indeed aside from showing back up on several occasions, including the finale, he also kept on voicing Thor for his appearances.

What it reads like to me is that Shanks asked to have a reduced role for a year while her pursued other projects. It's understandable since co-starring roles in TV don't often go this long and he may have felt like he needed to broaden his resume if he ever wanted to get hired after SG-1 finally finished.
Say for the sake of argument that he'd had offers over the years that he had to turn down due to being committed to Stargate and was worried what it could mean for his career long-term ; if he kept saying "no" then the offers might stop coming in. Such things happen with actors and most decent producers will do their best to accommodate.

Indeed, there will be another instance later on down the line of a Stargate veteran that I shall not name choosing to leave explicitly because they had an opportunity to star in their own new show. It felt like a shame at the time because I quite enjoyed having that character around in a new role (and I never really got into their other show much) but I understand the decision.

Avenger 2.0

This episode was too silly, and they turned Felger from a dumb but well meaning guy into kind of a buffoon. I'm not sure I wanted a sequel to The Other Guys, but that's basically what this episode is, matching up Felger with Sam. It also seems to me like shutting down the entire gate network would be a seriously big deal, yet it was played for laughs here. I did kinda like this dream sequence though, cat fight and all.

Me I always preferred to Daniel to Jonas. Jonas was okay but I really missed the Jack and Daniel friendship. Of course back then I actually know I was hoping McKay would have replaced Daniel and I was happy when he ended up being a regular on Atlantis.

Birthright

Everyone always brings up Avery Brooks and his disassociation with Star Trek, and in the past you had Robert Beltran have not so nice things to say about Star Trek. Well, maybe it was because Enterprise might be considered the weakest of the Trek series, there is one actress who I have found a bit of a tragic figure in terms of Star Trek and that's Jolene Blalock. I can't say I blame her, as she was very outspoken against the finale, but I loved her as T'Pol, especially in Seasons 3 and 4, and I am bummed that she won't go to conventions or speak about Star Trek these days. I don't even know what she is doing now.

I bring that up because when I first saw her in this episode, I took notice. Then a memory came back to me that yeah she was going to appear on an episode of SG-1 and that was this episode. She made this, somewhat, predictable episode better. As for the rest, this is another in the Tretonin arc and I liked it for the most part. Like I said, it was predictable when Neith started to go against the group and the story about her sister pleading her to take the drug. I would have liked to know more about why Mala died from it though. It seemed like her part kinda just stopped when she died. I guess it was un-explainable, but I think Frasier is smarter than that. Overall though besides those minor quibbles, I liked this one more than a few of the others recently, like Enemy Mine and Avengers 2.0.

Was Amanda Tapping and Sanctuary or someone else on a different show? I actually really enjoyed Sanctuary.

At some point I think they would have killed his homeworld and Earth would become his new home for good. Also the people Daniel is with would have returned and become players on SG-1 instead of how they were used.

She didn't want to do even that one season of Atlantis, but was forced to because it was in her contract. She gave an interview at the time (I'm looking for it) where she says she rather do something new after SG-1 was canceled but the writers could use her on Atlantis and decided to. They knew what they were getting when they wrote Atlantis season 4-5.

Evolution

Anubis has Supersoldiers now. That's an interesting development and makes him scary as hell. This was a good two parter, not my favorite, but still good. We learned a lot already about what this new Army is, a lot of stuff blowed up in both episodes, and I've just already impressed and fascinated by these Super Soldiers that can walk through Tok'ra shields and C4 explosives. There was also the storyline with Daniel and Dr. Lee in Central America looking for a fountain of youth device hoping it can be used to build a weapon to take out these new guys. They get captured by Anti-Honduran government rebels. This was my least favorite part of the story as it really didn't go anywhere, except for finding out what the device can do. We also got some Jack character development with an old former friend and that was a very good story as well. Seemed like Jack mis-understood his friend, who shot another comrade because he was a traitor and didn't tell anyone to protect the Wife.

Grace

This one was weird, but I enjoyed the character development for Sam. I was curious what the Alien ship was, and who Grace was, but thinking about it I think it worked to the episodes benefit that they were kept mysterious. This was about Sam being alone of the Prometheus (That ship gets pounded a lot by the way, what happened to those Asgard shields) and what her psyche was telling her. I probably could have done without the kiss though, but it did make Sam wonder if she was happy or if there is more to life than just the SGC.
