The Presidential & VP Debates

Status
Not open for further replies.
The second Presidential Debate has been cancelled. Thank God. Nothing of substance will be lost.

EDIT: Technically it hasn't been cancelled, but if Trump won't participate in a virtual debate and it's going to be virtual, then it's as good as cancelled. If Biden does participate, then it just becomes a Q&A for him.

No info about whether he's tested negative now (unlikely), but he's back at the oval office, "working".
Here's a song for the WH staffers:

Trump is 74 years old, so statistically he has about a 96% chance of recovery. Given that he's healthy and will obviously have attentive health care, the chances are probably higher for him.

The death rate for a 74 year old obese man is more near 10%, 5.4% for 70-79 range and 3x for the obesity per the latest CDC report, but that’s not accounting for access to world class health care of course.

I wish I could say I'm sorry about debates being canceled... but I'm not. Watching the President of the United States act like a 9-year-old in bad need of a time-out doesn't do it for me.

I don't support the Democratic party line and I never will. So this puts me in a quandary between voting for a clown or simply wasting my vote on a third party candidate.

Good news, though... it doesn't matter. I live in a blue state. So no matter who I actually vote for, I'm effectively voting for Biden. And probably Harris, too.

Just go third party. It's a protest vote to show you're not happy with who the major parties put out. It's being true to yourself.

Up to you Oddish,
I look at what a person has done not really who he/she is, they can be a complete ass, but they get the job done. I personally can't stand him, but I'm more than happy at the job he's done.
Your Choice.

Reminds me of a state election when I was a kid, between David Duke and Edwin Edwards. Duke was.. well you know, and edwards was a convicted fraudster.. who does one chose? Btw the fraudster won by large.. and then went to jail for a few more years after finishing his term..
Ugh.. Hate politics.

And admitted by an Obama member.. 2009 H1N1 swine flu was a total clusterf$%# and was sheer luck that it didn't kill more people..
You know.. that one? The one the news didn't freak out about?
And if Obama didn't do anything, Yes, I would scream bloody murder, but Trump HAS done something. Provided everything the states have asked for without going Unconstitutional with Federal regulations like USA wide Masks... so Yes. Pretty happy with what Trump has done with the Covid response. Thanks!
Not that I agree with him on everything, but batting about 80%.. Better than 20% with Ol Uncle Joe.

Oh. Kamila Lied on Lincoln in the debate. She said that Lincoln didn't appoint a judge till after the election because He didn't want to appoint someone so late. False. The senate wasn't in session during the time until December, And Lincoln held the nomination over a few peoples heads so they could campain for him in the Election. And in December (Lame Duck) he Apointed one. So.. Smirk Faced Lies??
Don't belive everything on CNN as I don't belive everything on the Fox... :)

Wait what? The news wasn't freaking out about H1N1? We have very different memories of those times. It was everywhere, inescapable on every news channel. Likewise with bird flu and ebola.

I don't take to this line of "Trump just got unlucky." You don't get to choose the circumstances of your presidency, nor do you get judged on how you would have done if everything had been perfect. In terms of what he has done, I doubt Trump himself has actually made any coherent administrative decisions. Do you really see him in the Oval Office, poring over the latest information, making conscious decisions based on sound reasoning? Here is a man who puts other people's lives at risk because he won't do the literal bare minimum to respect their safety. He got the best treatment in the hospital and maybe as the president he should--but I would also say that as the president it was his obligation to act responsibly with his own health in the first place rather than put the burden of his well-being on others, and then respond with derision and unconcern at his own actions.

In a normal sane world the debates would just be virtual and this wouldn't be an issue. It's ridiculous that there isn't going to be a second debate because Trump can't just be a rational human about it.

FALSE!

After Trump declared a national emergency, he instructed governors to order their own ventilators and other PPE. This forced the states to compete with other states for the supplies. This isn't an episode of The Apprentice!
Where the federal government did deliver supplies, the masks were past their expiration dates and had dry rot or delivered broken ventilators that needed to be repaired before they could be used.

Don't repeat the complaint about being left with diminished supplies. That excuse would have only worked during the first year of Trump's term. That's like borrowing someone else's car and then complain about running out of gas after driving it a couple of weeks.

The Defense Production of Act of 1950 is not an unconstitutional regulation but a tool to get manufacturing of necessary goods for national defense and to also prevent hoarding or price gouging. Trump minimally used it to make ventilators. GM/Ventec were to deliver 30,000 by the end of August. Most states were forced to by masks from China using cloak and dagger backroom deals to keep the federal government from seizing shipments for themselves.

Trump has completely, utterly, and epically failed in his response to COVID and is responsible for about 70% of the deaths that occurred.

Seriously. Yes, the respective dangers of these diseases getting out of control were presented as serious and scary things in the American news media in their times. Those of us old enough to remember aren't fooled by counterfactual claims to the contrary.

By the way, it amuses me that the term "freak out" was picked in the first place. The level of freaking out in the press is so much greater now regarding COVID-19 than about any of the other mentioned diseases, because COVID-19 is so much worse for the US. Of course, the term "freak out" is ill-defined, so the poster who picked that term to begin with can make it mean anything they damn well please to win their argument. Funny, that is.

No, the press wasn't freaking out as much about these other diseases, because they didn't get out of control, like COVID-19 has in the US.

Yes, you hate politics so very much that you show up in multiple political threads spreading lies and exaggerated claims that just always happen to favor President Trump even though you're soooooooo disinterested in politics. And it's just impossible to choose between the candidates because back in the 90s you were torn between a white supremacist (former head of the KKK) and a crook, so this time you're supporting a guy who's both, and so much more.

Please spare us the insufferable "I'm so above it all" line if you're gonna be pushing Trump talking points in every political thread. The truly disinterested don't talk this much.

@Covid-69 Great.. another personal attack.. Okay.. Who said i was Dis Interested? I can Hate politics and still be up to date because I actually care what goes on in America.
I don't like talking on boards like this about politics because people are so set in there ways that its like talking to a barn door, only the barn door occasioanly does personal attacks.
And the "Back in the 90's" i was 10.. I was just relating a story, i wasn't "Torn" or anything you deem to make up about me, you don't know me from Adam.
So spare me your uppityness of crowing about me defending the Bad Orange Man. Not everything he does is bad, and I just try to point that out, unlike alot in here is Trump can do nothing right ever.. So.. I'll continue being an ass :)

Feels Kind of personal to me...
Actually.. the whole post was directed at me.. Le sigh..

You're not going to bring a person who is conservative or pro-Trump around with ridicule and hostility. And I think if you're honest with yourselves, you'll admit that those posts were plenty hostile.
