The Omega Glory...

Too many pages to see if this has been addressed already, but one line that always makes me scratch the old noggin is: "once they got over the shock of my white skin..."

The Kohms aren't gobsmacked over transporters, phasers or weirdo uniforms. They're shocked at seeing a white guy.

Meanwhile... Over the in the next village...

Joe D'Agosta, you let us down...

Unrelated: I would love to read the original pilot version draft of this script. Is it anywhere online?

I've never seen this online. But I have read it at UCLA. It's certainly...interesting.

Is it very much different from what was eventually filmed? Apparently it wasn't improved enough for Bob Justman to ever consider it "good."

I would assume so only because we see Spock doing the FSNP ("Famous Spock Neck Pinch") AND Spock using Vulcan mind powers to influence the Kohm girl to activate the Communicator (Both abilities weren't even hinted at until far into the first season and Nimoy himself came up with the Neck Pinch during the filming of TOS S1 - "The Enemy Within" as he didn't really want to do a fight scene.)

Well, those are just two little character bits. Seasoning for the steak, so to speak. And it's been said (by an unreliable biographer) that the fate of the Exeter crew sprang from Shatner's unused script "Web of Death."

I’m just wondering how much of the core story remained intact

This I can easily dismiss as false. The crew’s fate was established in the 1965 draft. And besides, it’s not even clear that “Web of Death” was actually penned by Shatner; there’s not a lot of evidence to back that up.

As for the rest of the ‘65 version... @Maurice and I might have more to say about that soon(ish).

And? I'm not seeing the source of confusion. A white guy = a guy from the ranks of the horrid enemy. Except this time not - but Tracey would have his work cut out for him trying to convince the Kohms of that.

As for transporters, phasers and uniforms, the way Tracey speaks of staying behind to arrange for the survey with village elders suggests he did reveal himself to these people early on, already well before his crew died and desperation kicked in. But he need not have beamed into the village in full sight; he need not have drawn and test-fired his phaser the first thing after arrival; and for all we know, he may have been clad in animal skins over his uniform, as a cursory scan from orbit would suggest this was the local attire. So the Yang hue would be the first shocking thing the villagers would note.

Ha, you know, the following line, Tracey does say they resemble the Yangs, which for some reason never registered with me. Even though I've seen this episode a crap ton. So, womp womp on me....

Web Of Death felt more like a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea episode anyway. Giant space spider and all that...

Actually, it was one. The Monster's Web...the giant undersea spider and all that.
