The Most Disliked Episode of TNG, Finals: 2021 Edition...

Saving Suddenly Human, last average episode standing.

That's fine, it was my second choice anyway. But I'll return to Aquiel a third time.

My vote for this round goes to "The Icarus Factor".

While the Riker plot wasn't great, I liked Worf's subplot well enough. It also showed that Pulaski is quite accepting of Klingon culture, as illustrated by Troi not wanting to enter the holodeck for the ceremony.

Going with "Transfigurations" again. I like the interaction between Worf & Geordi in Ten Forward. Plus Capt. Picard & the Enterprise crew get to witness the evolution of a species.

Transfigurations is the only episode left on the list that doesn't make me recoil in pure, unfiltered revulsion.

GOOD for Troi!
At least one character who stands up for her personal comfort zone and doesn't roll over for Klingon "culture"
In fact, I consider her incredibly cute "No" in response to Worf's question of whether she'd enter the holodeck with him, the only redeeming moment in that episode.
And she still assures Worf that she's his friend and that she knows how important the whole thing is for him. She just doesn't wish to participate in something that would make her uncomfortable.

Actually, I felt it was wrong of Troi to not go in. She clearly knew what was going on, and almost certainly why. The why is what makes it wrong.

As counselor, she should empathize with Worf's feeling so disconnected with there being no other Klingons on board to celebrate such an important day in his life. It's her damn job. I'm not saying she should roll over on all things Klingon, but this was a major deal for Worf. And it didn't require her to actually do anything but be there.

The others who were there... good for them! They helped make Worf not feel alone on such an important day for him, and that can only solidify the bond he feels with them. It also has the great benefit of bettering their working relationship, too. Not that it needed bettering, but if you can help make someone you work closely with on a regular basis feel better by just showing up to a ceremony for a bit, why not do it?

Troi should have realized that, and it's one of the few times I strongly disagreed with her actions.

It is NOT her job as a counselor to spank Worf with pain sticks.
She already did her job by assuring Worf that he is not alone and handing him over to the people who felt comfortable in participating in that ceremony.

Plus not only is Betazed culture probably very averse to inflicting pain in others for any reason, but as an empath she'd feel Worf's pain during the "ritual", which would just be unfair to her.

Only the holograms used painsticks. Not the actual crew.

However, the Betazed culture possibility is an interesting thought, and would be a good reason to not be there. That would have been nice to hear in dialogue for multiple reasons, not the least of which is more storytelling possibilities.

Though I can't really accept the empathic feeling pain part... she could still sense his pain from almost anywhere on the ship. Whether it's the same room or on the other side of the ship makes no difference.

The Icarus Factor, for the same reasons. It will be voted off at some point. :D

We have a lot of episodes going head-to-head in these finals this time around!

....and then there's little Code of Honor, who just sits in the corner, eating paste, splashing about in their own wastes, without a single point to their name for the entire thread.

Only the holograms used painsticks. Not the actual crew.
Ah okay, I misremembered that part as the Pulaski and co joining in on the paddlin', yes, just standing there and smiling while Worf does his Klingon stuff is a lot less severe than the scenario I misremembered.
However, the Betazed culture possibility is an interesting thought, and would be a good reason to not be there. That would have been nice to hear in dialogue for multiple reasons, not the least of which is more storytelling possibilities.
I still say just being deeply uncomfortable with it is already a good reason not to be there.
But yeah the Betazoid culture part is complete (but not entirely uninformed) projection on my part. It just seems like if you gave Betazoids a bunch of pain sticks and told them to perform a ritual they'd just pile the sticks in the corner and then do something vaguely New Age-y while naked.
Yeah it would have been interesting to hear, especially since we hear so little about them.
Though Of course this goes both ways; if Deanna nopes out of a Klingon activity calling "Betazoid!" then that automatically gives Worf a carte blanche to decline any participation in Betazoid rituals.

Though I can't really accept the empathic feeling pain part... she could still sense his pain from almost anywhere on the ship. Whether it's the same room or on the other side of the ship makes no difference.
Troi's powers are vaguely defined, but from the scene where she accompanies Picard to a horsey ride on the holodeck, she's alright standing next to the horse, but declines mounting it because she might "lose herself in the animalistic mind". So there's probably some safe distance.

The horse on the holodeck is exactly that... a hologram. Nothing to sense. She was referring to Betazoids in general when Picard thought they would make great animal trainers.

And by this point in the series, she has sensed trouble and pain without being in the same room. When Malinson (probably spelled wrong) was getting attacked by the robot arm in "Home Soil", she sensed it before the blasts were in full swing. She sensed the 'well thoughts and well being' of the whole crew, or words to that effect, in "Where No One Has Gone Before". She got jumpy in "Contagion" because the crew was on edge. So there is precedence for her sensing Worf's pain anywhere on the ship.

(I do agree, though, that her powers were very badly defined in the whole show. It varied too often. So your point is still a good one. I simply disagree on it being an excuse as it isn't in dialogue.)

My apologies if I've derailed the thread.

I somewhat like Transfigurations so I'll give it a point. I was frankly surprised to even find it on this list. It may be cheesy and a bit mediocre in that it is not a very original story, but it has nothing to make it outstandingly bad in my eyes either.

And even though I find it hard to mention points that make it ' good ' in somewhat objective terms, the fact remains that I like it more than the others on this list. Perhaps it's the idea of a being that, having lost his memory and going through a difficult transition himself, still finds ways to improve the lives of others, either consciously or unconsciously.
