The Most Disliked Episode of TNG, Finals: 2021 Edition...

It's interesting, "Code Of Honor" and "New Ground" were among the first 4 or 5 Trek eps I ever saw. (Also "The Game") What an auspicious beginning!

"Journey's End" is worse than "Code of Honor"?

Really?

Reeeeeeally!?

Well, I hate COH more but JE is almost as bad. I mean the cherry on top of the parfait was the old "Indian" saying that Picard had repaid an old debt of blood or whatever when he didn't do anything! And he was perfectly prepared to beam them away against their will and was only stopped from doing so by Wesley of all people. It's like the episode can't even keep track of itself. What a dreadful piece of junk.

Oh sure, now Wesley has a 'superpower' that has never been alluded to previous to this episode (unless you count his Batman-esque intelligence a superpower & that has been beat to death in many episodes).

There will indeed be a version for each of those shows, as well as DISCOVERY seasons 1-3, and LOWER DECKS and PICARD season 1.

So "Journey's End" is the winner! Thank you all for playing... it was quite the nailbiter this last round. It was a lot of fun.

I will start DS9 season 1 late tomorrow.

I'm amused by how many different types of bad are represented by the 4 winners of this -- "Shades Of Gray", "The Outrageous Okona", "Code Of Honor", and "Journey's End."

Though of course, as I was posting in the season 2 thread, emerging classic "Shades Of Gray" was really just ahead of it's time. :bolian:

The lineup of players changed, and so did their preferences.

I disliked New Ground more than either.

I agree. New Ground is a pile of weak cold llama shit.

But, I’ll also take Code of Honor, Shades of Grey and Journey’s End any day over Aquiel, Suddenly Human, Hero Worship, and Imaginary Friend…so go figure.

I actually liked "Hero Worship". And "Shades of Gray" wasn't that bad.

I don't like "kid" episodes, and generally don't like Data episodes....so "Hero Worship" is a double-dose of awful for me.

"Shades of Gray" is a clip show, which is enough said...but it's also a very well-done and clever clip show.

I like some Data episodes. For example; Data's Day is one of my favourite TNG episodes, but yeah...Hero Worship isn't that great.

Everyone seems to love Data's Day. I can't get behind that. Maybe I need to watch it again. I just remember it as being super mundane (like, it could have been an episode of "thirtysomething") and it had what felt like a 37-minute sequence of Spiner and McFadden tap-dancing that was supposed to be fun, but was absolutely not.

I like "Brothers" and "Clues" as Data episodes...not sure there's many others I like very much. "Brothers" only gets a pass based on the strength of the teaser and first act...before it becomes the Brent Spiner show. I suppose "Ensigns of Command" was not too bad. "In Theory" was a snooze-fest, but I guess I don't hate it per se. I can't stand "Datalore" and "The Schizoid Man"...and really any episode where Spiner has to over-act and / or be a villain doesn't appeal to me (Descent, Fistfull of Datas, Masks etc). I'm not really fond of "The Most Toys" either.

I mean, only because a lot of people like it doesn't mean you have to like it.

You probably heard all arguments in favour of the episode, so I'm probably telling you nothing new, but I like the episode because we get to see what everyday life is like on the Enterprise. It's kind of like the "quiet" issues of Claremont's X-Men run, in which the focus was only or mostly on character-interaction.
I wouldn't want an episode like that all the time, but as a glimpse of what ordinary life on a Starfleet vessel is, I quite like it.

I actually DO like that aspect of the episode. I don't remember it well...but I remember feeling that was interesting. I guess it wasn't enough to put it over the top for me, though.

I may check it out again. I've been on a TNG kick...trying to get through the last 2/3 of S7 and finish a re-watch that started 4-5 years ago (LOL)...there will never be a better time!

Next Generation was just epically bad at writing kids. I don't know if it's cause they were constrained by social norms at the time, "We need more Beaver Cleavers and less Bart Simpsons" syndrome. Their emotions had nothing in common with the emotions of real human children.
