The Alternative Factor - weird plot, but unlike most of the others, not offensive. Which Up the Long Ladder very much is, on so many levels. (Racist? Check. Botched abortion metaphor that aims to be pro-choice but equates abortion with murder of a fully-grown being that isn't a part of the "mother''s body at all? Check. Celebrating eugenics? Check. Insulting the viewer's intelligence? Check.)

The Alternative Factor is another TOS episode here that shouldn't be, though the first season is very strong. It's not excellent or anything, but the conflict of the two Lazurus' (Lazuri?
) is fun to watch. I enjoyed the effect of when Lazurus would swith personality. I would have thought Miri and Mudd's Women were better fits for this round.

What I meant by my offhand comments were that the episodes in question (Code of Honor, Up The Long Ladder and Spirit Folk) exhibit sterotypes of race that are old and tired cliches, and they do no favours for themselves. One could interpret them as racist and offensive, which I imagine is part of the reason for how they ended up in the list in the first place. Just because you like them doesn't mean that you're racist.
