The Most Disliked Episode of VOY, Finals - 2025 Edition...

They really should have let Robert Beltran out of his contract and killed him off quite some time before this, he only wanted to be there because of Genevieve Bujold and so was already coming in with a chip on his shoulder and things just went downhill from there.

Yes. They should also have killed off Harry Kim, in light of their complete unwillingness to do anything with him. Given that they had abundant resources and were completely unwilling to kill off a main cast member, Voyager's supposedly perilous journey sometimes felt more like a Princess cruise. A few dead non-redshirts would have given a much more tangible "everyone's in danger" vibe. Especially if the First Officer expired.

TOS, TNG, and ENT got by with seven main cast members. VOY could have as well.

Chakotay heavy episodes require a strong co-star to lift the episode up or a b-plot that has nothing to do with him.

Some actors are like that: they need someone to play off of.

Only Beltran can make a big sweaty man in a boxing ring boring to look at.

Ouch.

"The Flight" wins! (Loses?) While "Unforgettable" is forgettable, "The Fight" is just bad.

There were a lot of worthy winners on the original list. Deciding among them was like judging a beauty contest for warthogs.

I'll stand by Kim, he's not a hugely interesting character but he does generally exude a quiet competence which embodies Berman-era Star Trek, and Wang is likeable on-screen (if not exactly the best actor around). His friendship with Paris is good fun too, even if Paris is the stronger character by a long shot.

Chakotay probably should have been killed during Scorpion though. That would presumably have made Tuvok the First Officer, which would have helped the character stay afloat during the EMH-and-Seven mega-onslaught that the show started to drift toward after that point.

Killing off Chakotay could have given Kim room to advance into security if Tuvok took XO.

Well OF COURSE developing the character would have been the best option. But if they were determined not to, better to get some mileage from knocking him off.
