Spoilers The Mandalorian | Disney+ | Streaming Nov. 12

Is it? The characters are never in danger since they can just fight their way out of anything.
There are very few shows were the main characters cannot face overwhelming odds and still win, in some fashion or another.

I may not have signed on for the Mandalorian but that's a character thing. But, any number of series have relied upon overwhelming odds and the main characters surviving. So, Mandalorian is trading very heavily on nostalgia and familiar tropes.

Everyone has pretty much said everything I want to say about the finale so I’ll just say this: Mando, the child is now yours. Give him a name!
Din Djunior? ;)
He'll always be Frogwai to me though...

The detail that jump out at me here is that it appears to be an elderly Gamorean, which is something I don't think we've ever seen before.

What makes it work for me is the Indiana Jones approach to daring heroics. It's not effortless, he's always getting hurt, scared, knocked down, and almost killed at almost every juncture, almost always just barely surviving by the skin of his teeth.

Well, sure. Surviving can mean a number of things.

The larger point being this is neither new nor offensive towards TV in general, and Star Wars in particular.

The opening scene with the stormtroopers was really weird. Two major morons right there. It felt more like Saturday Night Live than Star Wars. Other than that it was great. lots of great action and character moments and reveals.
Shit, that was my favorite part, had me smiling right from the start. What can I say, I realize I'm not the deepest thinker around here... Besides, the whole saga we've seen stormtroopers having silly casual conversations when we overhear them. I wonder if that was all fully scripted out or if director Taika Waititi had them improvise a bit.

My only complaint is it felt like they were down in those tunnels a little too long without being hotly flushed out. Not a dealbeaker or anything but I was like "Where did they go?". I guess maybe they had to reconsider their tactics after the firetrooper incident.

I liked Giancarlo Esposito's smooth brand of villainy. Was not expecting to see a darksaber. I like the way the series doesn't seem tied down by canon but likes to cherrypick through all parts of the legacy. Some might see that as pandering but I like it.

I was a bit surprised that Cara Dune stayed behind but it makes sense with the lone gunman vibe and all. It wouldn't quite be the same if Paladin, Kwai Chang Caine or The Man With No Name had a sidekick/partner.

Din Djunior? ;)
:techman:

Son and daughter in law are visiting with the grand daughter. Been watching with their account (along with several Pixar for the baby )

I found the series to be pretty straight forward story telling, sometimes predictable but usually very enjoyable. The direction was good, cinematography was very good and VFX top notch.

Enjoyed the ride and looking forward to seeing more next fall. Only complaint I have is it could have been a longer season!

Did they ever explain who walked up on Ming Na? Is that thread still dangling or do we think it was Gideon?

I don't think it was definitively answered but it works well with it being Gideon. Him knowing so much about his opponents works well with the idea of him methodically following and tracking down the child and taking his moment to strike.

Possibly, but Gideon doesn't have jingling spurs when he walks, while Boba Fett does. That could have been intentional misdirection, but I doubt it. The fact that it sounded like Fett and they were on Tatooine leads me to believe Fett will make an appearance in Season 2.

Or it's the guy from the Aftermath books that has Fett's armour. Or it's just another Mando.

Forgot about that, I didn't notice in that episode or for that matter before that Boba Fett jangles when he walks (something to look for in future viewings, was that in the OT or something new? Is that why his dad was Jangle Fett?). I can't really imagine why he'd be out there that would have a good payoff down the road.

yes, yes, I know it's Jango....

i liked it, thought the first part with the troopers was freaking hillarious!
Poor IG-11... So.. where's IG-12? :)
and a live action Dark Sabre? I thought Sabine had it still, but she gave it to Bo katan.. that sets up a possible starbuck, or more than likely a Visit to Mandalore!

I still don't understand the love for this show. It starts by making fun of star wars in a full on parody way. Then it goes into nonsense Rambo action where a few people take in an army head on and win. It's old school nonsense. Why do people like it so much??
Adventure? Hmph. Excitement? Meh. A Jedi craves not these things.

What's wrong with a little self-deprecating humor? It's charming and self-aware and shows that while the show is a labor of love they're also not taking things 100% seriously. It's good to not have a stick up their butts and to recognize some of the quirks of the franchise.

It's not just a few people, it's an assassin droid that can rotate and hit numerous targets in multiple directions in seconds, a Rebel special forces trooper, a bounty hunter with an Iron Man suit raised from childhood to be a warrior, a local magistrate with excellent aim and a quick draw, and a Force powered child, all with a cause, fighting against a bunch of poorly trained in marksmanship conscripts wearing useless armor who don't want to be there and whose commanders consider them expendable at best or just kill them themselves at worst. I like those odds.

Someone ought to alert their friend who was killed by the Scout Troopers, their droid nanny that sacrificed itself to save the baby, the twenty odd Mandalorians who were slaughtered by the Imperials, Mando who almost died of brain damage from a head wound he suffered in an explosion, Baby Yoda who was repeatedly punched, and Cara who was ready to sacrifice herself rather than surrender to torture and execution that they were in no danger then.

I just had a crazy thought, what if Din does raise Baby Yoda for his whole childhood, and in the end he is accepted as a Mandalorian and it turns out that The Mandalorian of the title is actually Baby Yoda, not Din Djarin.
And now I'm imagining him in Yoda shaped Mandalorian armor.:guffaw:

Firstly: ten thousand Jedi in a galaxy of a million or more of inhabited planets with a population probably somewhere in the quintillions means that while the Jedi got around, very very very few people ever encountered them directly.

Secondly: The Jedi probably weren't big on publicity, even during the war most of what they did could only travel by word of mouth and if people went around believing every tall tail told by shell shocked refugees and one armed drunken Aqualish, well then they may as well start believing ghosts, zombies and witches too... ;)

Thirdly: The Empire took pains to suppress ANY information on the Jedi, even going so far as to re-write the history books. So far as anyone that never saw them with their own eyes is concerned, they either never heard of them, or if they did, they're just a myth. As for those that did: they know better than to speak up since the last person that did, got a midnight visit from the ISB and was neither seen nor heard from again...

I think that Cara should’ve known a little bit about the Jedi and the force and all of that. She was a Rebel spec ops soldier. The Rebellion didn’t have all that many personnel. Word must’ve gotten around about Luke.

IDK, that scene very much reminded me of one of the better Star Wars fan film efforts:

As for the final episode of the Season I liked it a lot even though the characters have some major logic lapses at the end:
Sorry, but I don't think that what remains of the Empire will just lest all this go or allow Greef Karga or Carasynthia Dune to just go back to living their lives on that Planet...especially since Moff Gideon lived...yeah, call me crazy. ;)

Still I found the whole ride very enjoyable and am looking forward to Season 2 of "Lone Wolf Mando and Cub".

Oh, and for those wondering about Season 2:
