The High Republic: A more civilized age...

Also, this would really be the first time we get a look at the Jedi as they're supposed to be.
Not some waning, compromised and corrupted Order sleepwalking it's way to the gallows, and not a handful of hermits and half-trained padawans making do with some scraps of wisdom and a few ancient relics, this is the order in it's prime and probably the most stable and true to their purpose they've been since before the Sith schism. That seems well worth exploring.
This is my view as well. Personally, I love the Jedi even though the PT really showed the flaws and cracks quite deeply. And Clone Wars too.

I really want to see the Jedi doing well, being that force (no pun indented) for good.

The Jedi are my favorite aspect of Star Wars, and when I first heard of the sequel trilogy really happening, I was hoping to see Luke leading a new generation of Jedi, so I was kind of disappointed to see the Jedi Order once again all but extinct as was the case in the original trilogy. With The High Republic, I think I'm going to get the Jedi as I've imagined them to be--a strong order of knights.

It's not just above storytelling, but it's on the list twice, along with dinosaurs(!) and the fact that despite the fact that this is called "Star Wars" that this is not pro-war

Perhaps they mean diversity in the realm of the Star Wars universe. Would you take issue if there were Jedi of different alien races?

Well , we now have a wookie Jedi, according the cover of the book. I mean, I leave this idea of different races being Jedi - the words of Plinkett. Remember how he mentioned that the ideal Jedi would be the dude with the long neck who sits silently on the council. If I hada saber I know which part I'd be aiming for dueling him. Or Kit Fisto, with the squid tentacles around his neck swinging around. Brilliantly perfect for lightsabering1 Or what if a member of Dexter Jester's race became a jedi?

Campe, let's not stretch things. We all know what they're referring to .

Oh we absolutely do. And I have no desire to get into this with you for the umpteenth time, so I will leave it here.

My overall feeling is that it seems so .. corporate.. Nothing looks organic. "We need star Warsy stuff in this, let us just jot down whatever we can think of" and yet the idea of telling a story or a morality tale or some great journey might be lost in this

I mean, Lucasfilm is part of a corporation now, so sure, that's part of it. I'm honestly not thrilled by the idea they're presenting here either, but I'm willing to at least give it one book, just to see. I might think its the worst thing ever. But not giving it a chance just isn't in my nature.

Okay? It is their property, they can do what they want. The original trilogy will still be sitting on my shelf for me to watch when I get the itch. Just like the original Star Trek.

I mean, if they do, they do. But I really think the OT is too beloved to mess with... any more than they have, I mean, "Maclunkey!" Amirite?

(And before someone blames Disney for that, that was done for the planned 3D release of A New Hope that never materialized, under the direction of one George Lucas.)

I think it is a matter of time before it gets remade. Probably will happen if the franchise popularity dwindles and they need a big bang to get people's interest.

I hope you're wrong on this one. But I fear you're right.

You do realize that there are 25 other points on that board, right?
And besides, as much as it might piss you off, seeing diverse characters is important to a lot of people these.

Same here, the Jedi being wiped out again is my one biggest problem with the sequels. One of my favorite things about the old EU was that Luke was able to restart a successful Jedi Order.

You mean like Pong Krell from The Clone Wars.

Me too, I also was really disappointed that the Jedi Order was again destroyed in the ST.

And that more than anything else is my objection to the sequels. I don't dislike Rey because she's a woman. I dislike Rey because she was created to replace Luke as the Savior of the Jedi Order. If Luke had gathered a group of his Padawans, which Rey just happened to be one, to go after Kylo Ren I would have been fine. Rey could still be the main character, Luke would still be in the background, and not made a useless character and all would have been fine, but no. Kennedy had to pull that "Force is Female" crap instead.

And of course, I will always hate that Luke and Han were killed off. There was no reason for that Except of course, the latter was required for Ford to particiate.

I don't Rey was created to replace Luke at all. I think that is a very surface level read of the film, I think that Kennedy and Lucas both wanted a female protagonist and that's OK. "The Force is Female" was a Nike campaign not a Star Wars one, so that rumor needs to die and be buried deep within Ghenna and Hades itself.

My biggest disappointment with the sequel trilogy was not getting to see Luke's Jedi Order. I wanted to see what he built from the ashes of the original Order and I find it inexplicable we never got to see it. I like Rey but I didn't want to see her repeat Luke's "last of the Jedi" storyline. They basically did six straight movies with that last of the Jedi storyline. Disney missed an opportunity to show new Jedi.

My favorite novels in the original EU was the X-Wing series. A bunch of hotshot pilots who were otherwise "everyman" characters; rather than "cream of the crop"/"hero of the rebellion" characters. And what other diversity do you need when a human pilot falls in love with his bothan squadmate, a Gand findsman, twilek lawyer...the list goes on.
If these books and comics are not suppose to tie into any currently coming tv series or films, that makes me curious what we are getting on those fronts.
If it's successful, don't be surprised if they add a cartoon or animated show as a tie in. I don't think it's on the agenda in the immediate future, but 2-3 years down the line it could be.
