That was a great line.
Overall, a pretty forgettable episode --it was all set-up for what's to come. Dean the Enforcer, Death's Key, Sergi, God's weakness & Sam's connection.
BUT...the biggest reveal comes in the trailer. FINALLY!
Adam is back!!!!!

This episode was worth it just to see Dean singing THE DUKES OF HAZZARD theme.

I've noticed a recurring theme with this series... former hunters. The very few who actually leave the life end up bad in some way. I felt something was off with Lee from the start... I'm sorry I was right. I was hoping for a new end of the road for hunters.
It's good to see Eileen still hanging around the bunker. Sam deserves some fun and happiness. I hope they do end up in a happily ever after scenario... or at least as close as hunters can get.
Castiel... bro, your timing sucks. Sam and Eileen were about to have some 'fun', and you just had to barge in. But a good thing you did, because we got some progress on the Chuck hunt.
One tidbit really interests me... Death's Key. How did Sergei know of its existence, and what more does it do? I have a feeling we'll be getting to that before the end.
Yes, this was a bit of a filler episode, but it was a lot of fun. I'd definitely call this weakest of the season, but it was the first for this writer, so maybe thay's why. Still a fun ride.

So I got my wish and Eileen is still around, with hints of a romance brewing there. And speaking of hints, I wonder if Dean's conversation with Lee, where Lee says nobody cares and there's no reason to bother, and Dean replies that he cares and you always have to fight, foreshadows that possible ending where Sam and Dean take over Heaven and Hell. Perhaps just wishful thinking, but....
It was nice to see Christian Kane guest starring. I loved the cast of The Librarians. I wish somebody could get a revival going.
And we now have confirmation, as if we needed it, that Sam and Chuck are connected. And Sam has confirmed that Chuck is weak to the point where he can be defeated. The question is how, and what will the result be? Will they kill him or confine him? And can the universe survive God's death? I can't help but think that they will somehow sway him and bring back the good Chuck.
And Angel Radio has been silent for months. Lots of foreshadowing going on this week, I think.

So far, tonight's episode is an example of tight, focused storytelling that doesn't waste time. I wish more of the episodes in the show's run had been like this. Since it's our last midseason finale, I'm trying to just enjoy the ride for its own sake, but it's hard not to compare it to all that came before.
And...what a guest lineup, and half again as many that get name-dropped. So far, so good!

I amend my previous post...as much as I like Eileen, whatever storyline they're setting up could've waited until the midseason premiere. This episode should've dropped that storyline to spend more time on Michael--only now, at 48 minutes in, is he having the inevitable conversation where Cas proves to him what's been going on since season 5.
On the plus side, ROWENA. Gratifying to see they brought her back! I was sort of hoping we'd see Crowley in that scene, but...'twas not to be. Better yet, Jake Abel hasn't lost his acting chops--he's playing both Adam and Michael VERY adeptly. Good to see his years away from SPN haven't been spent in vain.

Forget my second-to-previous post...turns out Eileen's story was actually setting us up for a nifty (and pretty frightening as it turns out) development. The ends justify the means.
As for OG Michael...if there's one disappointment about tonight's show, it's that we only got three displays of archangel power. What he did to Lilith in the diner (EPIC); when he covered it up with a snap of his fingers (a nice callback to when Chuck did that in last year's season finale); and then when he snapped his fingers again and opened a door to Purgatory.
The last one is the only real sticking point, and it's a minor one. If he could do that so easily, then why was it such a big deal for Alt!Michael to do it from Apocalypse World?
That aside, it was nice to see Dean get closure with Adam. I dislike that Adam/Michael just walked away at the end, it'll be interesting to see what comes next for him/them. But all that'll keep till January because we're waiting until then!

I also really liked that little moment between Dean and Adam; I think Dean really needed that. I really hope they don't kill Eileen *again*; that would really tick me off. I, too, find it odd that Our Michael just snaps his finger to create a portal when Alt Michael couldn't. Or is it because it's a portal to Purgatory for his universe, rather than trying to go across universes like Alt-Michael did?
Will we get to see Benny in Purgatory? I assume we will see Leviathan again?

Wow. A great midseason finale.
First off, Eileen and Sam... I really hope they get a happy ending together. They are a good combination. And she fights pretty damn good.
Second... ROWENA IS QUEEN OF HELL!!! AWESOME!! And frankly, only fitting. I was wondering if this was going to be her fate, and I'm happy I was right. And I love her 'Auntie Rowena' bit when she was trying to get Dean and Castiel to make up.
Which brings me to three... the tension between them is clearly still there, but I think this trip to Purgatory will be exactly what they need to be on good terms again. I mean, that HAS to happen. They've been through too much together. And there they go into Purgatory again... I sincerely hope we see Benny again.
Chuck... bloody hell, he has just become a full on douche. Using Donatello as a phone... which, by the way, was great to see him again... and how he basically trapped Sam and Eileen. I wonder how that's going to go down.
And now the big one... Adam and Michael.
I really like the dynamic of having him and Michael actually talking to each other. They seem to almost have a symbiotic relationship, which would make sense given what they went through. I was actually impressed with Adam's attitude about the boys. He doesn't forgive them, but he understands their reasons. And Dean's reactions talking to him, both times... he REALLY needed to do that. That has clearly been eating away at him for a long time, especially since he told Death to get Sam out and leave Adam in the Cage. He made that choice, and you can see it in his face whenever his name was said... particularly back in season 10's "FAN FICTION", when the stage play had his character there.
And Michael... still a badass with powers. Quite angelic with how he handled Lilith. It's been a while since we saw something like that. And despite being in angel cuffs, he can STILL open a portal to Purgatory. (And I'm in the minority of actually liking the Leviathans. Must be because I'm partial to Pac-Man... and could Dick Roman make a return, since we got Lilith back briefly? Which makes me also wonder... since Leviathans can easily kill angels, could they also be a force to help against Chuck?) That's damned impressive, and raises a question.
If he still had so much power, why didn't Chuck spring him from the Cage and have him help during the fight with Lucifer, Crowley, Rowena, etc. when Amara was ready to destroy everything? At that time, he REALLY needed all the power he could get. It does make me wonder if the Cage also weakens archangels to a point where they have almost no power.
I do have another possible theory, but I have some doubts. Since Lucifer was Chuck's favorite, being the second creation of archangels, it makes me think Michael was the 'rough draft', for lack of a better term. And we all know rough drafts are usually called that because we need to make things better, at least while we read them.
Either that, or he just bored with the unwavering adulation and devotion Michael had for him.
In any case, this promises to be a great final half of the season. I already can't wait for the boys to come back... and to see what song they pick for the last THE ROAD SO FAR, midseason return edition.

Well, this was certainly an eventful episode. And I was right about Rowena taking over Hell, which was pretty cool. No Ketch as her consort, unfortunately, although there was nothing to say that he isn't there with her somewhere.
One bit of news is that they confirmed that Chuck can't be killed, otherwise the universe will fall apart (maybe they already confirmed that during the season when Amara was the Big Bad, but I don't remember). So now the plan is to lock him away somewhere, which strikes me as very dicey, especially in the long run. I still think that the best resolution, both in story and dramatic terms, is to nurture Chuck's better nature. There would be some poetry in the notion of Man saving God's soul.

They did cover that back in season 11. What season 11 established is that Amara and Chuck have a yin and yang relationship and if one of them is dead the universe will crumble. That's why Chuck locked Amara up rather than kill her. Remember that the sun was dying when Chuck was mortally wounded by Amara. However, if both Amara and Chuck die then everything is hunky dory. That's another possible outcome for this season -- kill off both Chuck and Amara. That's actually my preference. Kill off all the godlike beings that toy with humanity and threaten apocalypses every other week. Leave the Earth to the humans and low-level monsters and demons. That's a good way to end the series.
As for Adam, it was nice to find out that he wasn't brutally tortured by Michael and Lucifer over the past 1,000 years. I'm sure he wasn't having a fun time in the cage, but it looks like he and Michael bonded while Michael protected him from Lucifer's wrath.
There's still one other thing I wondered about over the years, and it's been back in forefront of my brain this season.
Death once said that someday he'd reap god. Obviously, with his death, it won't happen. But what if Billie, being the new Death, will be taking up that mantle?

I agree, that would be a good outcome, and leave the door open for Sam and Dean, or Rowena and whoever, to take over Hell and Heaven. Amara may be tired of the whole thing and want to sacrifice herself.
Now we're getting somewhere.
