Well, the second half of the season is off to a pretty good start! Worst part of tonight's show (so far, about 11 minutes in) is the fact that commercial breaks keep interrupting it.

Man. Seasons 16, 17 and 18 look super depressing. No wonder they want to end it at 15. :)
I enjoyed the episode but something felt off with Cas’s escape. I imagine there is more to that than what we’ve seen.

I thought so, too. At first I thought a Leviathan was impersonating him but....well, we'll see.

Holy crap, the alternate ending(s) for Sam and Dean are fucking SAD! I'm glad they finally showed Jack & Billie. I want to get this plot moving and figure out why Chuck is being such a dick.

This was a great way to come back!

I sincerely hope that leviathan was lying about Benny.

I'm really happy that Dean forgave Castiel. I knew it was going to happen, but that prayer scene... man, I shed a single man tear.

And then Castiel appears, and he tells Dean he heard his prayer... a couple more man tears.

Those glimpses into the future... wow, that's very, very, VERY dark. The whole thing got harder and worse as each glimpse passed. I do wonder, though, if they were real. Could they have been illusions to trick Sam, sort of like what Dean went through in season 5's "THE END"? Or maybe a memory from another universe? A combination?

And Billie and Jack... what the hell? I wonder if the reason Chuck wanted him dead was because he had the power to stop, trap, or kill Chuck.

A thought occurs to me... what if Jack traps Chuck, or kills him, and he takes his place and keeps the balance so the monsters don't win?

Remember back in season 5, "I BELIEVE THE CHILDREN ARE THE FUTURE"? A child born of a human and demon had ENORMOUS power over... well, anything and everything. (Though it does make you wonder, since demons are basically human souls that have been turned and corrupted in hell.) A child born from a human and an angel? That has to be multiple levels higher. I think Jack will be the new god.

Side note: given dialogue from "THERE WILL BE BLOOD" in season 7, I always thought Eve was a sister or something of the leviathans. But it turns out she was their mother? Did I mishear or misread the captions? Though it may be possible the leviathans simply hate her... plenty of examples of children ending up hating their patents, so that may explain the animosity laden dialogue that leviathan had with the Vampire Alpha.

Eve was clearly explained to be "Mother of All Monsters," but the question is the age of the Leviathan . If they are as old as Cas said, they might pre-date Eve.

That's what I meant. Leviathans are much older than humans, but it gets fuzzy on whether Eve was related to them.

It just occured to me... Castiel was able to knock down a leviathan with a handwave here. But leviathans were shown to be more powerful than angels in season 7, likely due to them being older than angels. Is it because he is more powerful in Purgatory? Or did I miss something?

No, simply because Jack is shown to be more powerful than even archangels. Archangels seems to be the step below Chuck in terms if powers.
I mean maturity wise. I think his connection with Adam has given Michael a greater perspective on the universe.

I think they said that without their leader, Dick they aren’t as powerful.

Well, Cass has certainly come a long way since his naive bumpkin days-- he not only called out Dean, but bossed him around a couple of times in this one. So has Dean, for that matter. That look of hopelessness on his face in Purgatory (foreshadowing Sam's predicament) was horrifying, and his plaintive apology-by-means-of-confession was heartbreaking. But Cass heard his prayer, and all is well in that corner of the Universe.

But not so well in the other Winchester corner. Dark Chuck has really gone Old Testament on the boys. I'm a little surprised that he was able to make Sam lose hope with his little not-so-wonderful life scenarios. Chuck is obviously not above lying. Another surprise is that they erased the magical connection between Sam and Chuck so soon. It all seems pretty pointless now.

And for crying out loud, Eileen is gone. And on the "I have to after what I did" pretext. Well, at least she's not dead again....

Another great moment was Dean's calm acceptance of Sam's failure to smite Chuck. Sam said he believed the visions and "That's good enough for me."

And almost as if to balance Eileen's departure, Jack is finally back! And Billie! And... "It's time." For what? It actually would be pretty cool if Jack took over as the new God to keep the balance of the Universe, because he was basically raised by Sam and Dean-- it would, in essence, be their heroic nature that saved all existence.

Poor guys have lost their plot armour. I knew it was Chuck who did this to them.
I always wondered how they dealt with money in the long term since they stay in one place. I don’t remember Charlie giving them that card.

Oy. That one was.....kind of embarrassing. A poor imitation of "Bad Day at Black Rock." I wish they hadn't wasted an episode of the very last season on THIS.
