Supernatural: Season 10 (Spoilers!)

Something that's bothered me since the end of season 9, and that was made especially glaring by this episode:

Why can the angels STILL not teleport?

I get that they lost their wings when Metatron's spell took effect and they fell, and that even though they're all back in heaven, they're still limited to using the portal in the playground to get back and forth. I also get that "Inside Man" wouldn't have been feasible if angels could still teleport--Cas could simply have zapped up to heaven like he used to, and there'd have been no reason to bring back Bobby.

Nevertheless, it seems wrong to me that demons can still teleport, even if we see it less than in seasons past, and the allegedly-more-powerful angels can't.

With Team Free Will in possession of Metatron's grace, I'm hoping that turns into additional leverage to get him to reverse the spell and finally reopen Heaven's gates. Will that happen before season's end? I sure hope so.

Well, the gates to hell are still open, so presumably, demons come and go as they please because their demon-mojo hasn't been screwed with, as it has been with the angels.

Not quite sure about why/how the angels can't connect back to all their powers, though. With any luck, that will get explained soon.

Why can the angels STILL not teleport?
IIRC, it's been said in an audio commentary that the angels don't teleport, they just move faster than the human eye can see. Presumably they could get to a portal and from there to Heaven in what to us would seem no time at all.

I enjoyed this ep, and hopefully it's a sign this show is returning to form. Rowena is much more enjoyable working hexes than playing mommy. I enjoyed the psychic character a lot - it would be good if he returned.

"I'm an angel."
"You can't be."
"Why not?"
"I'm an atheist."
"Not any more."

There was an odd jump from the Rowena/Dean showdown back to hell. We'd assume that Dean told her "Save these kids or I'll kill you," but it's odd they didn't show that. It's odd that Dean didn't kill her anyway, actually. Were the writers trying to clumsily cover up a plot hole (to keep Rowena alive), or is there more going on?

I also expected Crowley to offer to help find a way to remove the Mark.

Regarding cutting Dean's arm off, if the Mark protects him from magic it may well make him invulnerable to dismemberment as well.

I hope to see the old man telepath again, he was amusing.

Why wasn't Bobby with his dead wife in heaven?

Why wasn't Bobby with his dead wife in heaven?

Now that is an excellent question. It would have added some dramatic weight to Sam pulling Bobby away from his wife and back into the trenches.

Maybe he was. All we saw was him sitting at home, reading. Maybe she was in his little universe; we didn't get to see enough of it to find out. I think, thought, that he would've mentioned it, if she had. On the other hand, maybe seeing her would just bring back too many painful memories.

Yeah, I was wondering if that was supposed to be his whole heaven, sitting in a room by himself reading a book, or if that was just what he happened to be doing when they called him?

Best scenes in yesterday's episode:

Cas getting his mojo back :)
Cas and Charlie meeting for the first time :)
The get together at the end with the team having fun, except for Sam's sudden but inevitable betrayal!

I knew he didn't burn the book.
He was taking too much time to do it without him pulling a switcheroo or veeery shody editing of the scene.

"I thought you'd be shorter."

Excellent episode. Robbie Thompson needs to write every episode of Supernatural from now on.

I like this Michonne version of Charlie. When she called that Stein guy "Gambit" after hearing his accent in the opening tease, I nearly died laughing.

Cas getting his grace back was momentous and the scene in the library was wonderfully done.

And as we enter the final stretch of episodes, Sam finally gets some meaty material and an interesting arc with Rowena.

They wanna do a Supernatural spin-off. She is the character to build it around. I would watch without hesitation.

Me, too.

*ahem*

Those are like the only three women left on the show they haven't killed off yet. With Rowena it's only a matter of time.

Charlie, Jodi, and Donna don't entirely make up for JoEllenBelaRubyAnna etc. but they're freaking awesome (being ruled out as love interests helps their survival rate). All three for the spinoff then.

But Charlie as the main lead. :D

I liked how Sam saved the real Book of the Damned, but why would he come to Rowena for help? Charlie is a cool gal, but no Crowley tonight; otherwise, it would've been my ideal all-star cast.

"What's the maddest thing a man can do? Let himself die."

EPIC.

It's interesting to me that even though Cas did get his original grace back, restoring him to full power, his wings are still shown as broken--even though Metatron removed his grace prior to casting the spell.

At least this shows the writers haven't forgotten about Metatron's spell. A risk of multi-seasonal arcs--like angels not having wings, and thus not being able to teleport--is that they'll try to retcon the new circumstances as the new permanent status quo. In this case that would mean "Oh, angels having to use the playground sandbox to come and go without wings is just how it is now."

I know there's probably precious little chance that they'll address that before the season ends, since the main storyline seems to be the Mark of Cain. If not, I hope they tackle this next season.

As for Metatron and the Demon Tablet? Part of me can't help but suspect he's planning to use it to somehow open Lucifer's cage. Given everything he said about angels being "family" this week, and the finale being titled "My Brother's Keeper," it seems like the most plausible explanation.

Thoughts?
