Streaming era missed opportunities

So if someone becomes an insurance agent, for example, and spends their entire career, from their 20's through their 60's, selling insurance and finds happiness and fulfillment in that, you have a problem with that?
If they are told this is the only way to make a difference, the only time their life mattered, then yes.

Not making any mention of Kestra in season 3 was glaring.

I'd have to watch it, but wasn't there a line from Riker saying that Deanna and Kestra would be glad he would be away for a while? In the first episode? Or did he just say Deanna?

When exactly were Picard and company told that?
Told it? No.

It's the metatext of the film, as they stand on the bridge of the ENTERPRISE and go, "We're the crew of the ENTERPRISE and that's why..."

It feels very much like them being on the bridge is the only thing that matters. Not being a captain (Riker), not being a Chancellor (Picard), or anything else. Just being on that bridge. And it's a theme that Star Trek has repeated over multiple iterations and it basically says, "Stay where you are. Do not grow." in my mind. It feels very stagnant in a way that is frustrating to me when the whole idea is that humans can grow and change in Star Trek. But, you are correct that Kirk's destiny was described as being a starship captain, and he tells Picard the same thing that there is no reason to be promoted, no reason to grow or learn. Remain where you are.

I appreciate the idea of having the older characters contribute but the message gets lost in saying the older characters can only contribute by staying exactly the same.
