Strange New Worlds review **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**

FYI: The Slashfilm review has episode descriptions and spoilers for the first 5 episodes in case anyone is interested. Each episode's plot is specifically discussed. There are some major plot and character spoilers so proceed with caution..or if you're like me..Enjoy!

I like and endorse this, from the Slashfilm review:

The inclusion of familiar names seems to be enough for the show-runners, allowing them to eschew the usual "legacy sequel" story beats that have become annoying common in the Age of Regurgitation; There are no loving closeups of Starfleet badges or communicators. There are exteriors of the Enterprise, but they do not descend into vehicle fetish.

Although "Strange New Worlds" is a direct expansion of known Trek lore, the showrunners seem to have finally dropped the foolish twin pop philosophies of "We're doing this for the fans" and "We're reinventing everything." They found an old recipe, and it still tastes good.

Do it for people who aren't fans. That's how you make new fans.

I only read the first two reviews there, because I've seen those shows and honestly don't want to be at all spoiled on this series, for now. I'd say that there are almost no real spoilers of consequence in either of those reviews. They summarize the premise and approach of the shows, and pass light verdicts on the quality. I suppose that to say a given episode focuses on a particular character is a spoiler of a sort, but you can read these summaries and, IMO, be entirely surprised by almost everything that happens in "Strange New World(s)" and "Children of The Comet."

I notice that they give the first episode title the plural, so I was probably mistaken about the title. As I said (that has a familiar ring) I don't recall whether the titles appeared onscreen. They probably did, and I was just a bit too overloaded to notice.

La'an is
Khan's granddaughter!

I only see one general review, nothing about the first 5.

What doesn't make sense?

If anything doesn't make sense with respect to reality - as distinct from made-up TV fantasies - it's the supposed ban on Augments as it's been described in Trek all these decades.

My one gripe and it is a minor one but is one that can be said about much of entertainment franchises these days is the continued efforts to make the universe larger actually makes it smaller by making so much connected. But at the end of the day, whatever. If it’s entertaining, that’s all that matters to me.

Yea, it's gone now. Must have been removed for being too spoilery. It was a somewhat detailed description of each of the 5 episodes, even describing some b plots and character reveals. I should have saved it! LOL

Literally? How is that explained? Eugenic longevity or a retcon of the date of the Eugenic Wars?
If La'an is the same age as her actress, that'd put her birth year at roughly 2220. Khan left Earth in 1996. If he slept with someone literally just before he left, that'd put the birth year of his child at latest 1997.

This would mean that Khan's kid had La'an at the age of 223. This makes little sense, even for an Augment.

This assumes normal reproduction. Enterprise introduced the idea of frozen Augment embryos. La'an or her parents could also be from a batch of Augment embryos from the 20th/21st Centuries

Yep. In that Renegades fan series, they had a daughter made by Section 31 for... reasons... in the late 24th century.

First one was never stated. 2nd one I never understood why people assume that just because he was looking at one picture that specific time the camera includes the screen that it was the only photo he was looking at and that it meant that it was the last time they've meet. Personally even as kid rewatching it in the early 70's I just assumed he was looking a picture of her when they were originally bonded. Kind of like when I later would have an anniversary I would look at the wedding picture.

There is a huge, huge amount of things that fans take as fact that are entirely supposition fans have made over the decades, but aren't actually facts at all.
