Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I don't think the problem is that the show focuses on characters, so much as that its characters at this point seem to have a collective mental age of twelve and are often emotionally overwrought and wind up bluntly voicing their feelings and moods to each other and to the viewer, same as in Discovery.

There's a modern school of writing that suggests that to "write characters", you must write emotionally volatile people who are seen to be dramatically changed by events and are in constant states of psychological, romantic, and ideological flux. The idea that you could write about people with reasonably stable personalities and worldviews who are able to integrate new experiences well is almost sneered at by some writers today.

This is the "Let it all hang out" generation. :sigh:

Every week, the show gets more and more OTT (Muppet episode? Seriously? I thought the musical episode was bad enough.)

No wonder P+ wanted to shut it off after S4. :shifty:
Hmm. I had forgotten that Giant Freakin' Robot even existed. Now, I'm going to go back to forgetting that Giant Freakin' Robot even exists.

>IYAWN< S&W is the best Star Trek has been since TOS.

I'll take this over TNG's perfect mannequins with so little personality that you can swap the same dialogue between characters and not even notice.

Also, considering it's consistently getting better streaming ratings then Star Trek Discovery or Picard, if Paramount wanted to kill this they might as well just stop producing streaming Star Trek all together.

Only watched a bit of that and realized what a load of BS it was.

That deserves this ...
