Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

They keep trying to make Paul Wesley happen. I’m rooting for him, but he’s going to have to step it up.

He's got some impossibly yuge shoes to fill. Shatner, of course and, to a lesser extent, Chris Pine, who did a damn fine job himself. Hopefully he'll settle in and be a little more comfortable with the role in the coming seasons, but yeah I agree, he did a particularly good job last year with TTT.

I would love it if they killed Kirk. It would be shocking and also open the door to the show being set in a alternate timeline which means anything can now go in terms of canon. As for the actor I think he has done a solid job. More of a Pine fan though but I am also a unashamed lover of the Kelvinverse movies.

I feel like I'm discovering a bloodthirst among Trek fans I didn't know was present before.

I don't really see it but I heard that watching Janeway take out lovable and perfect Tuvik has made some fans feel, feelings that made them seek therapy for they could not dare face the questions. "Do these feelings really represent who I am? What is wrong with me?" Perhaps some of that has moved over to new Kirk.

He's won me over. Especially in TTT.
He was very good in that episode as an alt-Kirk, but less impressive as regular Kirk IMO.

The problem any actor playing Kirk faces is making the character their own, when he is so inextricably linked with Shatner, arguably even more than Spock was with Nimoy.

Pine did a great job at being Kirk, but different. Wesley has a tough gig in that he's supposed to be the guy who turns into Shatner's Kirk.

It's interesting that Anson Mount is basically nothing like Jeffrey Hunter, but I don't care and never even think of making the comparison because he's brilliant on screen and absolutely made the character his own. The same goes for Romijn, Peck, Olusanmokun and Bush.

Yet I'm always comparing Wesley with Shatner. It's probably my problem and I need to be fair to him.

Well, seeing the wish for Kirk to die (?) and then someone wanting Spock to end up in a Romulan dungeon in Unification (???) within a month's time (or so) struck me as odd.
