I wanted to be a writer once too. And almost all the students in class, came from middle/upper-middle class backgrounds, who had rich parents, and zero life experience, and couldn't write for shit. They couldn't empathize or 'walk a mile in another man's shoes.' Yeah sure they could write about the gay/queer experience authentically. But anything outside that purview was awful. Their writing was; flat, fake, disingenuous, petty, spiteful, hateful, egotistical and/or narcissistic. I am very familiar with that type of writing because it infests hollywood today(she hulk anyone?).I lost all interest in writing and changed my major. And what specifically gives you this feeling? Name a scene or line. Also how much writing by “upper middle-class kids” have you read? And how did you know their societal and financial status? Do you teach Creative Writing at some upper middle-class school? You seem to regurgitate talking points that you may have heard somewhere, but lack any first hand knowledge or experience with them. The age old attitude that modern “kids” are soft, weak and never struggled. Again broad generalizations that lack substance.
Do you think that it's okay, for star trek characters to shit on our time, for being 'backwards and primitive?'I’m sorry, when exactly did I “hate on the past?”
Depends, was it my power to effect change? Was it something beyond my control? Did I stand by and do nothing when someone was murdered? Did I turn a blind eye to abuse? Did I ignore the suffering of my fellowman because I wasn’t suffering? Complicated question.
Harlan Ellison remarked, more than once, that anyone who could be discouraged from writing should be.I wanted to be a writer once too. And....I lost all interest in writing and changed my major.

That was the first thing that came to mind as well. The Temporal Police use Omni's - but with a Vulcan/Romulan motif!Scifi author Andy Weir posted the following on Facebook. I am not familiar with Voyagers TV series (from 1982). Was this a homage to that show or just a coincidence?

Dude. I understand your bitterness, I also hear you about how difficult it is to break in without connections. It's true that it's easier to be a writer in Hollywood right now if you already have an income (this is part of the reason for the strike}. Poverty can certainly be a limitation but if you are a writer YOU WRITE. I come from poverty and I'm a published author. As long as you don't expect to make a living off of it you can do okay.I wanted to be a writer once too. I went to College in the 80s, and I too was fine with it.I grew up in the 1980s. So yes, when McCoy shits on 1980s hospital culture I'm fine with it.
