Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Small universe is when you keep running into the same ppl again. Why GR wanted to not cast Colicos in Tribbles, iirc.
I thought Trouble With Tribbles was produced while Roddenberry was on vacation and thus he had no involvement in it at all? Also, I thought they had wanted Colicos but he was unavailable? Or was that Day of the Dove?

You certainly may be right.
But I know I read of someone overruling a Klingon reappearance because of small uni syndrome. 99% sure I didn’t make that up.

I deleted a post due to an epic brain cramp.

Eddie Murphy was originally intended to be the scientist who assists the crew in the past (an astrophysicist instead of a marine biologist) in ST:IV, but the deal fell through, so they changed the character to Dr. Gillian Taylor.

I've known about that. I am surprised though that they never found something else later on that he might have been able to do. Of course it's also not like he is dead so it's possible he will still get a chance to be on Star Trek in some form. I wonder if he would work as Captain April.

Sure, you could cast anyone of any background as Robert April.
Which is why I always dismissed that old IMDB story about Trek XI originally starting off with the destruction of a TV series-era Enterprise 1701 with Robert April in command. If they were seriously considering using April, why didn't they just have him in command of the Kelvin and still cast Faran Tahir to play him?

Considering Paramount+ just got Tom Hanks to do a one-off cameo on 1883, I’m not sure any level of celebrity is out of bounds.

With that in mind, Trek super fan Eddie Murphy is 60, and could be a cool Robert April that would likely annoy the hell out of bigots.

I would have to grab the beer and snacks if they got a non-white guy to play Robert April. The meltdown would be ridiculously entertaining.

You'd have to discard what we were shown in TAS, which seems to be fully canon these days.

We still need Hanks on Star Trek since we missed out on him as Cochrane. He'd be a great April if you want to avoid the meltdown.

I’d love Hanks on Trek. He’s requested playing a Romulan, let that man Romulan it up!

That being said, ‪‪I think they can reconcile the animated April’s appearances as a different visual representation, and keep the content of The Counter-Clock Incident in continuity.

I know he's a huge Trekkie, but was there any actual truth to the possibility of him playing Cochrane in ST:FC (and couildn't actually do it because of his work on That Thing You Do)? Or was that just an urban legend?

Since you asked I looked it up. Ron Moore says he was on the wishlist but it never got further than that. So he wasn't approached, so there was never the opportunity for a schedule conflict.
