At the rate Paramount+ releases these series it'll be a bare minimum of over a year. It won't be an immediate concern.
It's really too bad that TOS was so meticulous in its date keeping, accounting for every minute of every hour of every day of every year of the entire five-year journey.

That's just plain stupid.
Similar to how the appearance of the Enterprise in DIS season 1 pretty much overshadowed everything DIS did after that point.

This leaking is good marketing for SNW.
My partner sent me the link to this thru Messenger. She never sends me anything Trek-related, so yeah. If it popped up in her feed, they've done something right.

Good marketing, I’d agree. We forget how little much of the world cares about Trek. I know, big ratings on Paramount, yada yada, but whole swaths just aren’t aware, I assure you. When I was teaching, like none of the kids knew of Discovery’s existence. To the non-Trek world, Dr. Spock and Kirk are Trek. And a rocketship called the Enterprise. So to make some hay and generate buzz that Capt. Kirk will be back on tv: pretty smart.

There are a lot of people espousing this approach, and it strikes me as playing semantics. The intent of the line seems pretty clear:
"Have you met him?"
"Yes, when he was promoted."
If the answer was "several times", or "yeah, we used to play racquetball" or "yeah, me and his crew are all old friends" why would Kirk have specified that one time?
Besides, "Fleet Captain" seems to have been retconned out of existence anyway. We never see anybody with that rank anymore - they go from Captain to Admiral, just like in the real navy.

Sorry I just don't get that logic. What? Did you figure John-Luc Picard was going to be in DS9 long-term because he showed up in the pilot episode back in 1993?
James T. Kirk is in Starfleet during this time. So in season 2 The Producers want to have a story involving James T. Kirk and Fleet Captain Christopher Pike working together. Given what Kirk said about meeting Pike in TOS S2 - "The Menagerie", why not do such a story?

I see what you’re saying, but fandom is plenty excited about Mount’s Pike. I don’t think there’s been more buzz about any casting other than Patrick Stewart’s return. So this, from my perspective, is just bonus buzz. No one who was going to watch SNW is going to lose interest until Kirk shows up.
The weird thing about this IMHO is he's a relatively big name that you don't just pick for a guest star role...yet his age kinda boxes him out of a lot of things, presuming Mount actually wants to have a decent run on Strange New Worlds.

- He is meant to play Kirk at this time, meaning he's playing a character who is 15 years younger than he is. Sure he's a well-preserved 39, but if Mount stays on as Pike for 5 years or more, he's going to start being visibly middle aged.
- Another possibility is that he's playing a "future Kirk" who has time-skipped back for some reason. This is intriguing, but it offers additional complications unless they want to just use him as a one-off, as there are a ton of SNW cast members who should also be on Kirk's Enterprise, and would thus have to be aged up a bit for the next spin off series.

Because you don't cast an actor with the television pedigree of Paul Wesley for a glorified cameo. This is a "Anson Mount as Star Trek Discovery Series Regular"-level casting decision and smacks of " we really want SNW to just be TOS 2.0".

Exactly! That's why this casting is overshadowing the series lead character - they're literally fighting for the same chair! And "Kirk" is just a much bigger household name.
Leading to the weird situation where their super charismatic lead actor everyone was excited for has to play second fiddle to a dull pretty-face (sorry, in "Vampire diaries" he was pretty much just dollar-store Edward Cullen)
