They have Michelle Yeoh waiting on the sidelines for an opening slot of a new show (they're at their production limit until Picard ends production) - which they WANT and she WANTS to do (and IMO she has a whay larget 'acting pedegree' and exuisting fanbase than Paul Wesley)...
So yeah, again, I love all the theory casting that somehow Anson Mount MUST have quit after Season 1 filming wrapped and they're bringing in someone to play Kirk for the majority of Season 2...

Actors with name recognition don't typically take guest spots regardless how how hard-up for work they are.
And,to be clear, I don't think this means that Anson Mount is being replaced; I think it signals that SNW isn't really the "Pike's Entrrprise" show it was supposed to be and is actually more TOS 2.0, and I think that's a bad idea because it's boring, uninteresting, and disingenuous.

I am not saying that Mount has been fired/will quit. I'm just saying by casting Kirk they've backed themselves into a corner regarding reviving the character. They could choose to do nothing further with him at all, but if they're going to do something further with Kirk, it's going to be with this dude, which means to some degree they're going to have to follow his schedule rather than when Mount & Co are willing to hang up their spurs.

And in looking at his filmogragy, his career hasn't really been 'blowing up' with high profile roles that last few years and he has a TON of small TV "walk on" roles he's done over the course of his career. He also seems more interested in doing stuff behind the camera of late

He's a genre name because he had a long stint on one long running TV series - "The Vampire Diaries".

This would be my favored solution to the issue. I do worry having a "Phase II" and Strange New Worlds playing at once would be difficult however, as the two wouldn't be that different in terms of tone/structure.
I'm pretty sure they have a long term plan for SNW. A plan that probably included Kirk from day one. Mount being the lead for just a few seasons (more than likely why he signed up) and then transitioning to Kirk is the plan.
Though if this is the case, one wonders why it starts up again almost immediately after Season 2 of Discovery. That's a full seven years (the standard seven Trek years!) before Kirk took command. If they were going to go with only a few years of Pike all along, better to set it like three years prior to Where No Man Has Gone Before, no?
Exactly. We know that it was a bit of an logistical ordeal to get Mount to do a series since he doesn't want to be away from his family. For all we know his contract is a one year at a time thing. They now have a Kirk they can bring in whenever they want. Hell, we don't even know if 2265 really is the first year of Kirk commanding the Enterprise. He and Spock aren't buddies in WNMHGB but Spock already calls him Jim. They don't even need to change the name of the show. Also Kirk being a Captain already means he outranks Una, so she could be his first officer for a bit if Romijn doesn't want to leave yet.
Does it? I thought 2260 was the time frame? So lets say Pike tenure is three years, making it 2263 when he leaves. Kirk takes command and has a couple of years of adventures until TOS proper starts. I don't think there's a hard date for Kirk taking command.
