Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

someone on twitter captioned that Pike photo as Yellowstone: 2258. I don't know if it was said somewhere in the trailer or presentation that is when the Season takes place or what.

Not a bad time to start if they're hoping for seven seasons, with each season covering a year.

Does that make sense?

From the box of "obvious fixes":
Somehow my main problem with the DISCOprise is the hull color.
Like, I just think that having it be dark grey instead of eggshell white makes the whole thing look waaaay more off than the (in-universe much bigger) changes to the shapes/form.

Similar to how I hated the DIS season 1 klingons. And giving them hair in season 2 fixed pretty much all my problems. Even though "hair" was the tinies change compared to the others - it made the overall look more familiar and thus more acceptable to "pretend" for me. I guess that's just art direction in general.

That being said - the Discoprise (Or SNWprise...) is the "Matt Reeve's Batman" of Enterprises. Get's a lot right. More close to the original than others before. But at that point, I'm already kinda' oversaturated with version xx of the same thing, and on first glance it just doesn't bring anything new or interesting to the table. Which is a shame, because it would have been a great opportunity.

Alas, I hope for steady and incremental improvement of al the TOS things (like they did already a lot Disco S1 -> S2 -> Short Treks -> SNW), instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater (DIS S2 -> S3).

The color of the Discoprise is a little too dark, but what makes it look bad is the generic hull textures - they come across as no different than the itty-bitty generic "hull panels" tile that Lightwave's been shipping with since the late 90s - in fact, they make Bablylon 5 look sophisticated by contrast.

Even the DSC starships don't all have the same grey or bronze hull colors so I don't know why they had to make the Enterprise charcoal grey and darker even than the TMP Era Refit. They could have left the color the way it was in TOS and the later series interpretations and just added more hull texture and details.

The more they overwork the plumbing the easier it is to stop up the drain.
