Now that CBS and Viacom have remerged, I would love to see some Kelvin-type ships in SNW. There's no reason now why they can't use those designs. But alas, I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment.

But, think of the children! We may know and understand the differences but TNG of kids are going to grow up more neurotic than any generation before trying to piece them all together. Or rather, separating them.

Can we please just keep the universes separate. I love Kelvinverse and just want it to remain it's own thing.

But the U.S.S. Kelvin is from the prime universe.

So, the Narada of the future didn't enter a split off universe in the past, it just went into its own past? No, I cannot do that in my head. That theory, wipes the prime-line out, all of it!

I can do the back in time part but it must be into a different universe that split off when the Narada went through. That universe plays separately from Prime and only has 3 stories told within so far. ST, STID and BEY.

I'm not sure why you're so confused. The Narada created the Kelvin timeline when it went back in time. But the U.S.S. Kelvin existed before that, and in the prime timeline, it wasn't destroyed and George Kirk wasn't killed. So the ship would still exist in SNW.

The USS Kelvin predated the Narada changing the timeline.

I'm not sure why you're so confused. The Narada created the Kelvin timeline when it went back in time. But the U.S.S. Kelvin existed before that, and in the prime timeline, it wasn't destroyed and George Kirk wasn't killed. So the ship would still exist in SNW.

And considering the design similarities, it stands to reason that the Armstrong, Newton and other contemporaries are probably still there as well.

The Kelvin Timeline branches off in 2233. Before the Narada arrives the timeline would be the same one recorded in TOS Era historical databanks.

I would love to see the Kelvin and her sister ships in SNW if an episode calls for guest ships. But I’d settle for other new designs that harken back to old FASA or FJ designs. I have a feeling though that CBS won’t want to use KT assets simply because they don’t want their audience to be confused (although Prodigy looks quite like the KT in their technology and visuals, lol)

At this point I'd be happy if we saw SNW versions of the Saladin, Ptolemy and Federation classes from FJ's Tech Manual.

Is it blasphemous to say that I never saw the appeal of those designs? They're just kitbashed Constitution classes with nothing of their own. I have similar issues with the Miranda but at least that has some unique features.

No, it’s not blasphemous. But for certain fans, things like FJ, FASA, Star Fleet Battles etc. were the only way we could get other starship designs than the one Constitution class we saw in TOS. It’s just a nostalgia thing.

I guess that explains my feelings on it. Growing up in the 90s and early 2000s there were already more varied official and fan-designed 23rd century ships around.
