I don't think he really saw his own uniform though, and the other people on the ship just called him "captain", so for all he knows this could happen any day now.All Pike has to do is resign before getting promoted to try to avert the accident

Pike has accepted that his vision has to happen as a "payment" if you will for the time crystal. Because of that, he will not intentionally do anything that could prevent that vision from coming to pass. It's still extremely problematic that Pike knows about it at all. What he does know gives him enough info to try to prevent it. He was in a Fleet Captain's uniform and still in Starfleet. All Pike has to do is resign before getting promoted to try to avert the accident. Doesn't help that in the Cage he already had thoughts about ditching starfleet.
Starfleet captains are so trusting of everything a random alien tells them? Tenavik might be a nice guy but for all Pike knows Tenavik was mistaken.Pike has accepted that his vision has to happen as a "payment" if you will for the time crystal. Not for you. A man either lives life as it happens to him, meets it head-on, and licks it, or he turns his back on it and starts to wither away.
It's inevitable. They said in the DSC episode once you witness the future it will happen, it's set in stone. It's still extremely problematic that Pike knows about it at all. If the writers didn't want to play with canon they should have made it a reboot. It's their fault, not the fans.Actually, what won't save him is continuity purists.
This is the same Starfleet captain that in 2254 was seriously considering becoming an Orion slave trader. Even if he knew the Orions' "secret" (that the women were in charge), he'd still be involved in helping the Orion Syndicate use these women to take over the minds of men across the galaxy.Plus he's a Starfleet captain, he would never avoid responsibility. He knows he'll need to save those Cadets, it would be irresponsible of him to try and avoid it.
They really should have just rebooted it. And that is the one black mark I hold against Discovery and SNW.If the writers didn't want to play with canon they should have made it a reboot. It's their fault, not the fans.
The ship sailed 5 years ago.
2017 called and wants its opinion back. They really should have just rebooted it.
I am nothing if not consistent.2017 called and wants its opinion back.
