Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I retract my earlier comment re: David Mack and John Jackson Miller.

I'd forgotten that Desperate Hours was a Shenzou-set story, and had mistakenly thought that The Enterprise War was released before Such Sweet Sorrow.

Maybe you should research this stuff before you post about it? Or you know what, how about you head down to the Trek Lit forum where some actual authors and editors who work on Trek novels will educate you on their canonical status. There is no such thing as a canon Star Trek novel, never has been and never will.

Besides, Desperate Hours in particular is infamous for being the novel that season 2 of Disco completely disregarded. In fact, weren't you the one who previously dismissed Desperate Hours where David Mack's author's note says the Enterprise, Pike and Spock were featured in the novel because they were never supposed to be on the show because it didn't fit your belief that the entire first season was "backwards engineered" to introduce Pike and the Enterprise at the end? And now you're using the novel to support your claim that novels are allegedly canon?

And none of the shows ever cared about whatever the novelverse was doing, and outside of homages they likely never will.
Indeed, the only times anything from the novels have ever been acknowledged in the show is the TOSR version of The Ultimate Computer using the design of Starbase Vanguard from the novels and Lower Decks using the design of the Titan. And even then, Lower Decks did not include any of the bridge crew from the Titan novels aside from Riker and Deanna.

Uhura and Sulu's first names are from the novels. Doesn't make the novels any more canon than when superhero movies take stuff from the comics.

I have gone back and looked at the original post. You both told someone they were wrong about something when they were 100% correct and then after they (very good-naturedly) provided clear proof they were correct, you blamed them for being 'unclear'. Never mind the fact that they were 100% explicit about who they were talking about and you chose to insert yourself into a conversation about actresses despite, by your own admission, not knowing who those actresses were.
it's very simple: is colt 100% in the SSS credits or not? was their post 100% in response to SSS or not? did that same poster even 100% confirm that colt was in the SSS credits, or not? ;)

It can make one another Colt from a different family. I accept that the one we saw wasn't J.M. Colt.

And I developed an attachment to the "Such Sweet Sorrow" bridge crew myself. I'd also like them to stick around, or have their absence explained. Promotions and/or other postings would be preferred, of course.

Just drop it. I dropped it, and I think Tuskin (who I really appreciate in general) dropped it. It was just a bad semi-joke purposely worded to be elusive.

If NCC wants to fight it, let him be. Some people don't like being wrong. I know I don't, which is why things escalated in the first place. I should've just left it alone and maybe thumbs upped their incorrect statements as I usually do to confound them.

I don't think anything needs to be explained. The Bridge crew is different and Pike carries on his new mission. Wouldn't that be the way in Starfleet?

Why do fans break their backs trying to explain it away? The name "Colt" was no accident. This is their standard of continuity (see also: Discovery, reimagined Le-matrya etc) so there's only gonna be more and more stuff like this. They've rebooted the 23rd century, it's deliberate and it is what it is. Just go with it. In TOS, Colt was human and in the officially-prime-but-wink-wink-SNW, she's a spikey alien.

They've never changed someone's species before.

What is a Colt? My understanding is that it is a firearm, but what does it have to do with Star Trek?
Based upon BTS and outside information it is Pike's yeoman in "The Cage." Technically I don't believe she was addressed as such in dialog. Same thing with in the finale of Season 2 of Discovery. An actress is credited as Colt but not addressed as such in dialog. So it can be changed without much issue, beyond fan opinion.

Gotchya. Thank you. I never saw The Cage pilot, but I did see Menagerie with Number One and the others. I don't recall "Colt"
