Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

If it's Uhura, she should be in gold ;)

I just hope Spikey Red Colt will never appear again - or used to explain how she changed so much.

It should be obvious that we're not going to see TOS characters other than Spock in SNW because Spock is the only TOS character who served under both Pike and Kirk.
And Spock doesn’t have a sister.
Oh wait

Two people can share the same name

Uhura didn't join the Enterprise until Kirk did, and the people working on Strange New Worlds know and respect that fact and won't contradict it.

Also, nowhere in that Illuminerdi article does it make any reference to who the characters in question might be, so this idea that the names listed on casting sides are 'codenames' for characters like M'Benga, Uhura, and Christine Chapel is nothing more than somebody talking out of their :censored:.

Specifically, it's me. I'm the one talking out of my censored smiley face. The M'Benga-Uhura-Chapel connection was speculation on my part, since it's highly likely that all those names are codenames (casting sheets always do that, and Biodun is explicitly an unidentified TOS character). No one has made the connection to the five cast in the Illuminerdi article and the five new actors on the video, and I just noted that they fit pretty well and included my speculation on who a couple of them might actually be.

AFAIK, I'm the first one who's made the Miller-Chapel connection, which given my track record here, is automatically assumed to not be the case.

Sorry if I confused you by speculating on a speculative thread. We know nothing until Paramount tells us more.

And Fisher. Can't forget about Ol' Fish, the greatest character in Star Trek history.

This is where I point out, once again, that at no point in "The Cage" is it stated or implied that Yeoman Colt is human. All we know is that she's a woman, from Earth, who can probably procreate with Pike. Pike found her physically attractive, but maybe he's into spiky women.

"Colt" was never explicitly identified as such on-screen, anyway. They can ignore the credits if they really want to; I doubt they ever imagined SNW would actually happen when they did that.

Will it be after The Cage and after Disco S2? I think it could even be before The Cage, or between the two, or even around the end of Pike's command, all of which would be interesting.

I think it would be fun if they picked up the pilot right where Q&A left off. Then they work up to Cage for like season 2 or 3 or whatever finale. But do a whole Lower Decks style episode that takes place during the titular events.

That's sorta the approach the Marvel comic Star Trek: Early Voyages took. It started shortly before the events of "The Cage" and showed that episode from Yeoman Colt's perspective.

Nothing about pre-DSC Canon precluded Spock having a sister.

You're taking a pickle and trying to compare it to an apple.
Where's the canon saying Uhura joined the crew when Kirk did? It's right up there with "Spock doesn't have a sister" to me.

Correct. Colt was never identified onscreen or even in the credits. Her name purely comes from background sources.

For all intents and purposes, Laurel Goodwin was playing a random, unnamed Yeoman. Unlike Nicole Dickinson, the only person ever identified as playing Yeoman Colt in the credits of a Star Trek episode.

If it's their intent she be Yeoman Colt (as it clearly was or they'd have given another name in Disco S2), they'll pretty sharpish establish it in SNW.

From TOS, we really only know what the Enterprise crew was at the time of The Cage. We don't know exactly when SNW is set, but it's likely after Discovery Season 2, which means it's been a few years and some crew turnover would be expected.
