How about this: since we never learn Dragon!Colt's first name, maybe she's the wife of the human Colt from the Cage and took her last name upon merriage.

There's zero evidence that Yeoman Colt, in "The Cage" was human. She was merely identified as an "Earth woman", which is no big deal. Aliens live on Earth too. As far as I'm concerned, they just updated the makeup, and she always looked like that (the Roddenberry Rule™). It would explain why Number One was "different, of course" than Colt.

How about the producers don't worry about bringing back any minor or supporting characters from "The Cage?" They've already got three whitebread actors for their core cast.

Colt could have undergone some sort of of species reassignment procedure. Some sort of genetic engineering. I'm kind of joking, but kind of not as I think species reassignment could be a thing in Star Trek. I think it would be kind of cool, to be honest.

Potentially cool, but since the Federation has banned all genetic engineering because of Khan and his minions, highly unlikely. Remember Bashir's parents had genetic work done on him at an early age, which he had to keep secret his entire life until it all got blown open, and that was around 80 years or so after the timeframe we're talking about. There's no way someone would be genetically engineered into another species AND still be a member of Starfleet in the 23rd century.

When I was first getting into Trek during the reruns of the various shows I assumed that the Tellarites were supposed to be the "Space Dwarves" to the Vulcan's "Space Elves" (the Romulans are the "Dark Elves/Space Drow") and I was kinda disappointed that they never were used like that (or much at all)
So Yeah, I'd be on board with a Tellarite.

The short answer to that is yes and the Vulcans are Elves.

Romulans are Dark Elves etc etc.

Yeah kinda. I mean I was coming form a mostly fantasy background so my mind just sorted the species like that.

Though the analogy kinda breaks down after that. Like, the Andorians don't really correspond to one of the "classic fantasy races"
And there's no Space Halfings or Gnomes (though there probably could be something said about the Ocampa...)

The short answer to that is yes and the Vulcans are Elves.

Romulans are Dark Elves etc etc.

We need Space Wood Elves. Though we do kinda have the Mintakans who are "more primitive" Vulcans.

Honestly, I think we have a better chance of seeing that cadet from the Ask Not Short Trek in this show than we do anyone else from The Cage not already featured on Disco and the Short Treks.

The only one I want back is Dr. Boyce. If I were to use another established character it would be the captain from the Tribble Short Trek. Have her come back all disgraced from her previous command and has to work hard to earn a second chance. Much like Tom Paris on Voyager. Actually I wouldn't mind also seeing a younger version of Admiral Morrow and a Captain April but Captain April shouldn't be white unless you can get Tom Hanks.
