Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I'd like to see their take on how Kirk and Spock first met.

Incidentally, Kirk said in "The Menagerie" that he met Pike when he was promoted to Fleet Captain. Pike can be a Fleet Captain and still be in command of the Enterprise. So there's a loophole there. Or Spock can meet Kirk without Pike meeting him. They have room to maneuver.

In TWOK, the dialogue suggests Carol Marcus had met Spock before. That could've been either before or after TOS. And around when Strange New Worlds would take place and when Kirk was with Carol would line up within the rough ballpark. They would've had to have been together for at least a little while, I'd think, if Carol really is the "blonde lab technician" they referred to in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" who Kirk said he almost married.

I'm not surprised, I expected for them to have Kirk on the show in some capacity. I mean aside from Spock he is THE big Star Trek cash cow. ;)

I'm not opposed to Kirk making an occasional appearance, but if Jake Cannavale's performance in The Mandalorian is anything to judge him by, yikes.

How on earth could Kirk be on the Enterprise during Pike's time?

And don't be surprised if the show is going to be called Star Trek - Enterprise, not Strange New World(s).

The original article, written by the same guy (Emre Kaya) who claimed that Section 31 will film season 1 and season 2 back to back, that Discovery will film season 4 and 5 back to back, that there is a Discovery movie in the works and who leaked the season 3 episode names of Discovery, amoungst others.

We will see if his 'leaks' proof trustworthy...

Who says he's on the Enterprise? Discovery tends to have recurring guest ships, the Shenzhou in season 1 and the Section 31 ship in season 2.
Perhaps he had a previous command in this version of Trek, or the articles are mistaken thinking he's a captain.

Kirk on Pike enterprise.. Personally.. No.. Save it for the end when he takes over. or maybe him as a comander meeting spock for an asignment.. something more organic..
as for the Casting.. Oh hell no!.. he was annoying in Mando.. AND A bit of a nepotism there as he's the Son of one of the writers whos' supposidly close freinds with Alex.. AND he doesn't look like the Shat AT ALL.. and the charisma of pet rock..
Whole heartly disapprove..

Kirk should still be on the Farragut during this time, I’m thinking. Maybe a quick cameo or two, sure, but not a regular. This isn’t the Kelvinverse.

Having Kirk as a junior officer on the show would be rather brilliant, honestly. It provides a little more youth appeal to the show, and gives Spock an irritant to deal with who's more on his age and level. ;)

I'm thinking they want a season-long Star Trek (2009) dynamic which sounds really good to me. The cast is gonna be a bit white male heavy, though.

Discovery got Pike for an entire season and Spock for half of it. They can wrangle Kirk being a regular somehow.

Kirk should still be on the Farragut during this time,

Kirk was on the Farragut in 2257, 11 years before "Obsession".

The end of "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part II" takes place in early-2258. So, if Strange New Worlds picks up after DSC S2, then the events described in "Obsession" already happened. Because of the trauma Kirk went through after 200 officers were killed on the Farragut, and the fact that it still disturbed him so much in "Obsession", I think he was probably transferred to another posting afterwards, so he wouldn't constantly be reminded of the lives lost.

Kirk also served on Vulcan for awhile and taught at the academy, plus must have served on at least one other ship after the Farragut. I don't like the idea of him being on the Enterprise/show, but his pre-Enterprise life is vague enough they can do pretty much anything with it.

I'd prefer it stand on its own two legs, no more fan service/small universe. I know a lot of others feel differently though.

So, here's the dialogue from The Menagerie:

MENDEZ: You ever met Chris Pike?
KIRK: When he was promoted to Fleet Captain.
MENDEZ: About your age. Big, handsome man, vital, active.
KIRK: I took over the Enterprise from him. Spock served with him for several years.

I suppose this leaves some wiggle for putting Kirk on the Enterprise under Pike's command. Pike is promoted to Fleet Captain and the Enterprise is the flagship. Kirk is assigned on board at the same time (maybe Pike requests him). Then Pike leaves and Kirk assumes command.

I'd rather this not be the case, however. Let's hope if Kirk is in the series, it'll be for a one season arc on the Farragut.

According to Memory Beta, various novels had him in Second in command, first as a Lt. then a Lt. Cmd. on various ships, till being given command of various ships till the Enterprise.
Considering #1 is ... #1.. Kirk may be second officer, and again according to books.. he was in engineering for awhile, maybe chief engineer like Scotty was and 2nd in command..
I'd rather not see him on the Enterprise till the end.. with Disco and Picard.. there was way to much Fan wank and stuff going on.. just have Pike and Co. do there own thing without having to bring in other show's stuff..
Also plenty of other B characters they could introduce, and by the end, Scotty, McCoy etc could be there.. and Kirk just walk in and move forward..
