Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Jemison- First black woman is space.
Piscopo- One of the breakout stars of the popular long running TV show Saturday Night Live.
Morello- Member of the popular band Rage Against the Machine. Platinum and Gold albums
Pop- Iconic rock star with a discography dating back to the 1960s.
Slater- Rising star with several hit films by the time of STVI.
Johnson- WWF champion
Hawking- Award winning scientist and author. One of the most well known scientists in the world.
MacFarlane- At the time of his ENT appearance he had been nominated for and won Emmy Awards for his popular TV show, Family Guy.

I think those are "big" enough

They are big names but I would only say Slater was a movie star. I do think it's possible to get one of those big name Locutus mentioned but I do think they key might be whether or not they are a Trek fan. One of the things common also in most of those mentioned names is they were big Trek fans so they were doing it more for that reason than seeing it as another acting gig. Be honest I am kind of surprised Ben Stiller has never did a Trek or Eddie Murphy even in the later years of his career when his star went down for awhile. Both are know for liking Trek and surprised nothing ever came from that.

Yeah, being a fan would help.

It might be fun for Pike or someone to comment on how the Kilingons look different from the ones fought in the war and have the Klingon tell him "We do not discuss it with outsiders".
It's possible that the reason they apparently have not appeared in two years is the producers are trying to settle on the best way to do a soft reboot on them.

I'm a big fan of of moving on with a minor redesign of the makeup and don't remark on it.

"Big" stars command "big" salaries, which is why it's hard to get them. Probably none of those listed did so with Trek. As someone else pointed out, the vast majority of these people appeared because they are fans and did it for fun.

I really hope we are actually getting a pre-Disco looking Klingon on the series.

I get why people would feel that the Klingons are overused, counting Worf and B'Elanna they're in something like 60% of all Star Trek stories, but they're one of the major neighbouring empires so it'd be a bit weird if they didn't keep showing up from time to time.
Show multiple styles of Klingons, including Discovery ones. It's a big empire. Treat it as such.

A Klingon?

Pandering to the vocal minority of fans once again, the Next Generation look for *spoiler* has returned. Lame.

The makeup techniques were somewhat out of date, but nothing about it is "lame."

This is fine. The STD Klingon look was generally poorly received, and one of the show's many creative missteps - far from the first they've had to backpedal on.

Eddie Murphy was originally intended to be the scientist who assists the crew in the past (an astrophysicist instead of a marine biologist) in ST:IV, but the deal fell through, so they changed the character to Dr. Gillian Taylor.

I confess I have no idea who the fellow posing with Tuvix Killer is.
Tom Morello, guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave among others. Generally regarded as one of the best rock guitarists of all time.
I don't know offhand who the guys in the Alice and Mike squares are, either.
Actor Christian Slater and Family Guy / The Orville creator and actor Seth MacFarlane.

My big issue with the Klingon isn't the makeup per se, it's that from the forehead down, he just looks like a normal dude.

Normal teeth, normal human beard, pretty pale skintone, etc.

Maybe part of that is a desire to not go into the "oriental exoticism," but it eliminates a lot of the iconic look. No one said they had to cast a generic white guy in the role after all.

garbage if true
we don't need more klingon stuff they're super boring and overused and if you must bring out legacy species just use another one please

If you’re looking for creativity from CBS Trek, at this point, you are simply going to be disappointed.

He could be a background actor, so less effort put into the makeup, and no need for the teeth if you never see them.

Someone clearly hasn't watched Discovery Season 4.
Or Prodigy.

IF this is a real BTS shot, there's no reason he has to be in full makeup - i imagine fake teeth and a beard are a lot faster to apply than forehead prosthetics.

Do you really need the reminder that the only thing consistent with Klingon appearance is that it's been inconsistent since ST:TMP?

And for further reference Klingons in the SNW era should look like this (if you want 'visual consistency' - but yeah, that ship sailed the back in 1979 with ST:TMP):

And if anything, the Klingon makeup in that tweet is more akin to the Klingon look in STVi:TUC.

I just watched “Kobayashi”, complete with the test, Spock, Scotty, Odo, Uhura and Beverly Crusher…

…and a Galaxy Class bridge.
