That implies a deeper familiarity than just meeting once.

I have to give you that one. Like you with the original question, I can posit all sorts of explanations for the "Chris," but none of them are particularly elegant.

It certainly does, and your inference resolves a beef I’ve had for more than forty years. I thought it was bad form for Kirk to presume a familiarity with someone he met once (fleet captaincy) or twice (took over the Enterprise). Even with the exclusivity of the starship captains club, it seemed unctuous.

Your take on this would be rare bit of “show, don’t tell.” With that, I have a feeling of
