Trek is 50% fan service. Even TNG couldn't go 178 episodes without bringing in classic TOS characters, ships from the TOS Movie Era or random references to the events of the past and in particular the 23rd Century.
Wrong? No. I just roll my eyes and hope they actually tell interesting stories rather than "Look! A dedication plaque!" As if that is supposed to inspire my confidence. I'm sure I sounded jaded asI mean. The series, itself, is fan service. Is there something wrong with that?
The reference to "old school fans" is what I roll my eyes at. Theoretically, if it is a good story, shouldn't fans be excited? No, just me then, old school or not.I'd imagine Mount is referring to the tone and structure of the show, and not to how original the stories are, or how many references to previous shows there will be. Not sure how that's eye-roll worthy.
It's just a prop. I doubt there will be any scenes where the camera actually focuses on it (if there is it will probably be just once).Wrong? No. I just roll my eyes and hope they actually tell interesting stories rather than "Look! A dedication plaque!" As if that is supposed to inspire my confidence. I'm sure I sounded jaded asbut I would like a little bit more meat to the tiny bread crumbs of pointing to Trek's past. Fan service for fan service's sake is becoming very cringe for me, especially when it is called out.
More the emphasis placed on announcing it. Yes, it's a small irritation but that's where I'm at. The focus is annoying. It's just a prop. I doubt there will be any scenes where the camera actually focuses on it (if there is it will probably be just once).
Like our best look of the ones for Discovery and Shenzhou were all from BTS or prop replicas.

Posted, announced, whatever. It wasn't announced, it was just a picture in an Instagram story from the director of photography.
It wasn't done through any of the official Star Trek or CBS accounts.
A bit more info from this article at trekmovie.com:
It's just a neat prop. No one is acting like it has higher value than anything else in the series.Posted, announced, whatever. The emphasis is annoying me, and now word games.
I'm taking a break at this point. Clearly the value is in the little tiny details.![]()
Not what I said at all. Just let me be annoyed instead of rationalizing away the insistence upon showing off tiny details and exciting "old school fans." Thanks, appreciate it.It's just a neat prop. No one is acting like it has higher value than anything else in the series.
We all have our things. This once caught me the wrong way.Sorry, it just seems like an odd thing to be annoyed about to me.
Just ignore it.

That sounds way worse.Don’t feel bad. You should have seen me when they showed Picard’s Leondegrance award with a ship design from the Enterprise-E lineage for a ship that was supposed to be in service in the 2330’s.
Hell, TNG couldn't go half a pilot--"Look, it's old McCoy!"Trek is 50% fan service. Even TNG couldn't go 178 episodes without bringing in classic TOS characters, ships from the TOS Movie Era or random references to the events of the past and in particular the 23rd Century.
And then two episodes later they remake an entire TOS episode. And then despite their plans to have as few old species as possible, they bring the Romulans back for the season finale.Hell, TNG couldn't go half a pilot--"Look, it's old McCoy!"

The design is mostly the same, but it's now a polished bronze, and it uses both Starship Class and Constitution
And, no split Delta.
Ah, fan service. It will never end.![]()

It is. And I do expect them to tell new adventures. It's just when they promote it or post about it or whatever theIt is what it is at this point. Hopefully they will be able to intertwine new adventures with memorable stories with the fan service.
