Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

one of the earlier seasons (maybe even 1?) the clapper had a TOS Enterprise sticker and the usual suspects jumped to conclusion that it meant the ship would look that way.

For me - Decker's story was a the B plot of the episode and he was there as a primary plot complication for both Kirk and Spock. Yes, his character DID have a story (and it was a decent and heartfelt one that elivates the episope) - but yeah, they entire overall focus is "How does the 1701 ship and crew beat this thing and save the most densely populated section of the Milky Way Galaxy."
I'd disagree. Decker and his guilt and obsession are the primary plot. The Doomsday machine is there to motivate Decker's behavior and give a sense of jeopardy to our heroes. Decker also places our heroes in jeopardy through his actions. The "solution" to the DM is basically "Kill it with fire!!!!!!!" (From the inside)

No it should not be that way. Doctors are meant to do more medicine than a nurse
I'm rather late to this particular conversation, but ...

After working for over forty years in a hospital, I can tell you without a doubt that Nurses do 1000%+ more hands on with the patients than any doctor.
Doctor's breeze in and talk to/examine the patient for at the most 10 minutes, RN's & Aides spend their entire 8-12 hour shifts dealing hands on with anywhere from 6 to 20 patients.

You really have no clue about the realities of modern medicine.

A nurse is never going to do the job of a doctor. Nurses hardly even go in operation rooms when a surgery is been performed
HOLY CHIT .... The assisting RN in a surgical suite is the surgeons right hand.
They set up the room, make sure all the paperwork is proper and double check every single thing that the surgeon does before, during and after.
Including making sure that all the after-surgery processes are complete.
Again, the doctor waltzes in, does the surgery and then waltzes out, leaving the patient in the complete care of both the surgical RN and the Recovery room RN's.

You really shouldn't make statements about things you have no clue about.

It’s like working in any government environment from local municipalities all the way up to the fed. The civilian govies sit around in meetings and congratulate themselves for everything we contractors all do (and we do pretty much everything). The milspec guys are considerably better to deal with.

I worked on both sides of this - as a tech contractor, as a writer on teams bidding for work at the Pentagon and offices of DHHS, and as a governmental employee reviewing work performed by Booz Allen among others.

And I can say one thing as certain fact:

The above-quoted is without a doubt what a lot of contractors believe. ;)

Am I correct in assuming that (1) the officially licensed Season 3 DVD set has not been released yet, and (2) the ones I've seen for sale in various places (including Amazon, but fulfilled by an outfit I'd never heard of) are infringing BS?

Then I was right when I clicked the "report" link on Amazon's listing, and reported it as a likely infringement, because neither official nor independent sources show any indication that a licensed DVD set has been released.

Before I even brought the subject up on this thread.

I'm not above putting broadcast or even online content onto physical media, or dubbing ancient, out-of-print vinyl to CD, for purposes that can in some way justified under the Fair Use doctrine, and neither am I above very specifically buying used copies of Harry Potter books, both in order to read it in the King's English, without the intrusion of U.S. editors, and because I agree with certain notable TrekBBS members about Rowling having the sort of "issues" that make me want to avoid giving her any more royalties than she's already getting.

But damned if I'm going to knowingly buy anything from somebody who infringes another's copyright for profit. Or who infringes a copyright in order to prevent the rightful owner from profiting from that copyright.
