Strange New Worlds disappointment

Regarding SNW and worldbuilding, I would like to see them address:

-What happened to Chancellor L'Rell. I was hoping Pike would have a recurring Klingon opponent.
-The Tholians and what they are up to, if for nothing else as a nod to the Early Voyages comics.
-The Broken Circle could be recurring antagonists.
-Ash Tyler and Section 31. I can see them not wanting to touch Section 31 because of the movie, but I doubt there will be future Section 31 movies in that vein, and revisiting Ash would be nice.
-Seeing Harry Mudd or the "Serene Squall" captain again. It seemed like the "Squall" captain was being set up to be a recurring thorn in the crew's side.
-I don't think it would hurt to revisit the logic extremists, Kelpiens, Xindi, Denobulans, and Suliban in some way. Or to give more spotlight to or flesh out more Original Series species.
-I don't know if it's a rights issue, but I would like to see them use some of the Kelvin aliens (even if in the background), and I really like to see a Kelvin Klingon snuck in with the Prime Klingons.

Even taking into account SNW S3 is probably the show's weakest season, and that I don't think Disco's as bad as others do, this statement is still so very wrong.
Well yeah I didn't expect it to be a popular take. But I also never thought SNW was that good to begin with so it was easier to lose me I guess. SNW already became fundamentally uninteresting to me when it had a season finale that was just remaking a TOS episode to reaffirm the importance of a legacy character. Even if it was mechanically well made the show lost me on the substance side fairly early and S3 was the show doubling down until it was too hard for me to get engaged in most of it. All in my opinion of course.

Genuinely surprised we've gotten no Tholians yet.

Seeing how Spock and the bridge officers in TOS were very, very familiar with Tholian punctuality and territorial behavior and Enterprise NX-01 had made first contact with Tholian ships over 100 years earlier there'd be nothing holding back the writers.

Yeah, at its worst SNW Season 3 was still better than most of DSC.

Yeah, I'd have to agree. As I said upthread, I think SNW Season 3 is about 50% good, 50% mediocre. I don't think a single DIS season got there for me, though Season 4 was close (6 good, 7 mediocre).

Compounding this DIS is more serialized, and the only season where the landing was properly stuck was Season 4. Even though there's individual episodes in every season I like (Into the Forest I Go, If Memory Serves, Forget Me Not, Face the Strange, etc.) being placed in the middle of underwhelming arcs kinda wrecks the seasons as a whole.

Though I do give DIS credit for taking wild swings, even if it missed. Especially in the first two seasons.

I mean I'd also say SNW season 3 was 50% good, but where good means mediocre. Only great episode was Sehlat Who Ate It's Tail for me (maybe Hegemony), and I'd say the last 3 seasons of Discovery has problems that influence most of the episodes, rather than it having any individual episodes that stuck out as being particularly bad. I think for the first time the episodic story worked against a Trek show for me, because I'm just remembering a bunch of individual stories I think are bad, as opposed to (using Discovery S4 as an example) it having maybe 4 mediocre episodes in a row in the middle but hindsight that just boiling down to a slow part in the single overarching story which I thought ended well (doesnt help that I dont think the SNW S3 finale was good).

Its not the common take here, but SNW season 3 disappointed me enough that I would say its now worse than Discovery. At the very least, if we're taking the final season of Discovery vs SNW S3, I'd watch Discovery season 6 over SNW S4 in a heartbeat.

Discovery knows what it is and I can approach it on its terms. I dont think SNW knows what it is at all and seems more interested in Trek as an out of universe brand rather than an in universe world at this point.

And the disappointment hits because i never thought it was the best thing anyways, its always been worse Lower Decks, but even then this one lost me.
STD isn't canon.

I forget I cant edit yet, to be clear I am a full supporter for more episodic tv, not just in Trek.

....have we tried rerouting the got-it flow to the what-are-we-talking-about generators and shunting the oh-I-see-gotcha to the main confusion dish?

Just like Enterprise and Star Trek: The Motion Picture — nothing anybody online says will actually knock it out of the canon, no matter how much or for how long they want it to — by all means keep doing it, Star Trek doesn’t care! — until and unless a new chapter of the franchise looks up at the camera and says “Hey, you know that show you hate? We’re decanonizing it!” Which seems unlikely to happen in the near future.

It just seems silly. “Disaster” and “Threshold” and Section 31 are godawful, and I’d love for them all not to be canon. But they are, because I don’t own or make the franchise.

“Butch and Sundance don’t die! They go on to live like kings in Patagonia!” In somebody’s head, probably.
