Starfleet Academy Official Trailer

Depends on the channel. I'm willing to bet people commenting on Star Trek skew older. Just like the folks commenting on music reactions when the music is "oldies". Of course millennials are in their thirties and forties. They're Grumps!
Finally! People respecting my game!

As for Social Media comments, how people engage with it on social media is not at all the important question. People are going to watch it, and hate watching is just called watching by Paramount. It's a subscription. Until fans are willing to stop watching the show they supposedly hate Paramount will just tally numbers.

Other than that, Youtube is an unearned platform that reflects rather poor segment of humanity.

Let's game this out a bit.

If the assumption is that Paramount is banking on subs from Starfleet Academy, then they're making content for a demographic that

Churns subscriptions relentlessly
Has the least disposable income (households with $150k+ income have ~3 subs, $75k and under typically have 1)
Prefers free content over paid subscriptions
Shares passwords
Rejects "modernized" content

Gen Z aren't known to be a high income demographic, so we can assume 1 paid sub, which probably won't be Paramount+.

So even if they do watch it, they aren't going to be paying for it (someone else's subscription), will pay for a month or two then churn, or will watch it for free using alternative methods.

That makes how people engage with it on social media VERY important, because they use social media buzz to decide which service gets their scarce subscription dollars "that month".

And as we've already exhaustively gone over, the social media response has been mostly trolling.

The USS Beverly Hills?
The crew starts off every day playing the Weezer song throughout the ship's intercom.
I just typed "zoomies" into Google. The first result was for a clothing store named Zumiez. I refined to "zoomies slang" and it's apparently slang for "frenetic random activity periods." Google even confirms that the term for Gen Z is "zoomers" as opposed to "zoomies."

When was the last time a Trek fan watched 90210? How will they know what it's like? :vulcan:
Fun fact: 90210 used to be on right before TNG. In the TV room in my college dorm, all the Trek people would start filing in as the 90210 episode was ending and it often made a bit of a commotion. One time one of the 90210 fans hung around during the beginning of the TNG episode and made a scene giving us crap for disrupting 90210. We almost had a nerd rumble!

When I return to classes next week, I'll have to ask the kids about both "zoomie" and 90210. For the former I've never heard anyone self identify or refer to them as that outside this thread.

And I find the 90210 reference shown is probably not from a younger person. 90210 is a Generation X artifact.

They left the comments open on the teaser released 4 months ago and got trolled hard. This one they posted last month with comments off. The obvious answer is yes they want engagement but only positive engagement, and they knew they weren't going to get it.

The same memes show up on YouTube, TikTok, X, Reddit, and in forum threads like this one. Its not just a YT thing.
Or....... they know there's a certain segment of the fandom that will rip apart anything made after 2005, regardless of the quality. There comes a point where engagement with the hate machine that is toxic fandom on the internet isn't worth the effort.

You can't truly love something unless you're willing to be critical of it.

What do you mean you just figured out why I'm single?
I mean...yes, criticism has a place. But, criticism and love are things that should be married together otherwise it's just mean spirited, seeking those things to target and criticize always, which no desire to aid in improvement. Just assuming that mockery and contempt will somehow motivate behavior to improve.

I'm sure that works great in relationships...oh wait

>32,000 examples of it in modern usage - in the link in very text you quoted - and you're still googling. Sorry brother, I can't help you. Nobody can.

What is this? Dial-up?

Picard, Season 3 official trailer. No trolling in the comments - or at least the top ones that I scrolled for a minute or two.

The fandom wants good trek. When they drop something that looks like it was made in the spirit of the franchise, everybody cheers. When they drop something that looks like it was written by HR, trolled.
