I thought the episode titles would have been announced as of Dec. 15 (one month before).
I think Kurtzman was saying of course he could go because lesser known players go. That's my read no, "*sniffs arrogantly* Of course not. That's beneath you."hell with Kurtzman's response? I get his point that Giamatti is a big actor who doesn't "need" to do conventions, but that pop culture cliché doesn't describe any convention guests I've ever seen. Plus, Kurtzman himself also does them, alongside the bigger actor guests.![]()
Don't you get it? Kurtzman is ALWAYS putting us down because he has such low regard for the fans and the contribution they have made to the lifestyle he lives.Humor. It is a difficult concept. Kurtzman wasn't putting anyone down or dissing cons.

"Now the real question becomes, what's the ranking between Original Series, Next Generation, and DS9 for you?"
Giamatti: "Oh, boy. It would be DS9, Original Series, Next Gen. Is that crazy? I’m a huge Deep Space Nine fan."

Re: Conventions.
Giamatti "I said to Alex Kurtzman, “Can I go to those now?” And he said, “Dude, the guys who play Security Officer 12 in Episode 9 of Season 14 of whatever, they go to those things.”

I was remarking on how his "joke" didn't really reflect the reality that he knows first-hand.
The outrage machine demands to be fed at all times, of course.Don't you get it? Kurtzman is ALWAYS putting us down because he has such low regard for the fans and the contribution they have made to the lifestyle he lives.

So one-off actors do go to cons?I have absolutely seen folks who played minor side roles or guest spots on a bunch of series show up at conventions to sell autographs. They're never the headliners and I'm fairly certain some cons won't let them set up at all, but it is definitely a thing that happens. Or at least it did in the past, as I haven't been to a Trek con since the 90s.

What delayed/changed Section 31 was NOT that it was considered a 'bad idea' - more that after Michelle Yeoh won an Acadamy Award her schedule/availability/cost changed so she wasn't available to commit to a 10 episode series (the 1st season of scripts had been broken a 5 full scripts written). In a way, you can use the MCU as an analogue, insofar as there were some movies which still did well despite notable flaws/mixed critical/fan response (MoM, Quantumania, Love and Thunder) until it got to the point where people wouldn't show up in the theaters for genuinely good movies like Thunderbolts.
Turning to Trek in particular, remember that the most recent new project in Trek was the Section 31 TV movie. It's something that largely happened because Kurtzman had been pushing for it since Discovery's second season wrapped up, and was so into the idea he refused to let it die even after the writers who pitched the original series idea quit. And it was awful.
This is another project that exists largely because Kurtzman thought it was a good idea, and wanted to find a way to launch it.
It's kinda sad, but with these kind of big franchises, it's just subtractive, not additive over time, unless you bring something pretty unique to the table. Each new project alienates some folks, which results in an even smaller audience for what comes next.
Sorry. I don't think that assement is accurate. The difference between the two was that Discovery's stuff often just didn't make sense within the greater context of the Star Trek universe so it came off as Soapboxing.
