Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Honestly, my first thought looking at that was how hard they were trying to 'no homo" it.

While I only think there's really one couple among the main cast, they pretty studiously make sure that guys aren't touching guys and girls aren't touching girls.

Second thought is Jay-Den's head looks weird - like it was shopped on. Wonder if there was a makeup issue with the original pic?

That new poster...

They are all looking a little bronzed and shiney, or is it just me? Do we think this is the actual logo that will feature in the titles, or is it purely for the pre-launch material?

I know we had an earlier logo which felt very US college in style, but this is almost identical to the 90's game logo (which I loved playing when I was younger!)

The Klingon looks like a great warrior
Because he isn't, he's a scientist.
Not all Klingons are warriors you know. If you ever watched TNG, or DS9 or Voyager.

It's also the 32nd Century, cultures have changed in even less time than that on Earth.

I dont see any great captains in that bunch.
Of course you don't, they're cadets. Please, pay attention.

It's like the current producers genuinely hate the fans.
Based upon... What exactly? :vulcan:

Why is everything assumed to be hate motivated? For a franchise built upon diversity there is zero tolerance for a new perspective.

Because every first-year cadet is instant Captain material and doesn't take literal years to mature into the job.

As we all know, the only aspiration of Starfleet officers is to be a captain. There is no greater calling. Not cadet, not lieutenant, not admiral; just captain.

I must be weird, because I low-key kinda really like that poster. The only thing that would make it cheesier is if they were trying to form the Starfleet delta in the grass, lol.

Seriously though, it‘s cool that they are focussing so much on the new characters in the promo material instead of leaning into nostalgia and put the legacy characters front and center. I think this poster really underscores what kind of show we can expect: The cadets‘ personal lives and relationships will play a big role in the show. This will probably be more teen drama than high-minded sci-fi. And everyone who sees this and expects something wildly different is setting themselves up for disappointment and can only blame themselves if they still tune in.

I‘m personally not the biggest fan of the costumes and the fact that we are back to all gals wearing skirts. But aesthetically I like our new cast and hope they‘ll be able to write them as interesting characters experiencing some interesting stories. :bolian:
