Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

I didn't want to see the Borg again, either. But season 3 was still far and away the best arc based season of the Kurtzman Era.
The "Rutherford's implanted memories/Admiral Buenamigo/Texas-class" arc from LD S3 says otherwise. The Picard S1 arc had far more depth and growth, despite some believing that it (like PIC S3) dropped the ball at the end.

I forgot to add 'live action' to my point about best arc based season. (Which I did say a few posts before the one you quoted.)

LOWER DECKS is the best series of the current era, no question. And season 4 of that show is its best.

That was Season 3, Season 4 was the Locarno arc.

It had a lot of great character moments. The scene between Picard and Ro gave me closure I didn't even know I needed. But then they just killed her off, which brings up a whole other complaint about this show and legacy characters.

A big problem was that the story wasn't being driven by the characters, the characters were being driven by the story -- the above mentioned dot connecting and coloring by numbers. The story they contrived to explain Jack's existence is a perfect example. Crusher had to act totally out of character to have kept Picard in the dark for as long as she did. In the main story itself, Crusher was Crusher, but the backstory that they created was totally story driven and not character driven. And there just wasn't enough story there to justify it.

In the end, the chemistry that these characters and actors have between them is what saved Picard season 3. Even some truly bad episodes of TNG are almost redeemed simply through the poker scenes.

I think the plot held up fine until maybe the very end. Bringing back the Borg was not needed.

The whole problem with them saying they chose the 32nd century to "mirror the uncertainty of today" is we know on the show everything's going to turn out alright, since this series obviously takes place before the epilogue scene in Disco's finale based on the ages of Tilly, Reno and Admiral Vance in the trailers. And as we see in the epilogue, the Federation and Starfleet are thriving as they always have.
Remember how early TNG was paradise and bliss and then later they retconned it so the Cardassian Wars were going on during it?
