Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

But then they had to adopt the window screens from the Kelvinverse.

Hence the window viewscreens etc.

He made windkw viewscreens

LCARS appeared in TFF and TUC. No way did they go from knobs and switches that fast!!!! My Trek is ruined!!

Lcars is the design not touchscreen. TFF and TUC touchscreens did not have the lcars tng design.

I'm the last person here who would be on DISCO's side about almost anything...

But, as sad as this makes me, seasons 1 and 2 are definitely in the Prime universe.

Seasons 3 - 5, because they take place so far past anything previously seen or heard in the Prime universe, can potentially take place in an alternate future. That, and ACADEMY, could be taken out by a situation similar to "Yesterday's Enterprise" by time travel shenanigans.

Or simply be a completely different universe, like the Kelvinverse is.

Correct. They did finally settle on std being in the prime but absolutely none of the tech designs, uniforms etc. matched any of what we saw in the 2250s and 60s of the original series. Hopefully someone will retcon the whole thing as alternate one day.

It will be the usual nonsense from the usual cast of clowns.
Come on now, people are allowed to dislike things.
The trailers, teasers and whatever hasn't been that good and like I said in another thread like months ago, I want these things to succeed, but I don't see how they will.
Imagine trying to be happy with being a fan.
Fandom that has been dwindling since 2017.
So, just another day.
It's worse. Social media amplifies things a thousand fold than even a decade ago.
New to Trek fandom I assume?
(This has been the pattern since TAS premiered on NBC on Saturday morning on NBC in 1973. And I know because I was there. ;))
Pattern that repeated till the 2009 reboot, when fans were proven wrong.
Pattern that has been changed since 2017, when fans have been proven right.

Yeah, probably not.
We'll see.
No more than any other Trek series premiere in the last 38 years.
It's gonna be worse.

You're already practically salivating at the thought of getting the opportunity to trash the show.

Frankly, I don't see a point to all this handwringing and head-canoning to ensure Discovery isn't part of the precious timeline. It's allowing a show some seem to hate to live completely rent-free in their heads.

The show is in the Prime Timeline whether one likes it or not. All this other squabbling is just a pointless waste of time.

:guffaw:^^^
This is probably the largest load of crap I've seen posted on this BBS since I joined in 2001.
Prove me wrong then?

When TNG premiered, a lot were against it but came round to it.
When DS9 premiered quite a lot of Trek fans hated the concept of Starbase Trek, but we all came around to liking it, it's a classic now.
VOY, same reaction, fans took their time, but came round to it.
Only ENT had a bigger cloud of negative fan reaction which at the time were kind of justified but overall it's a classic now.

Kelvin Timeline, we all know how that turned out, not cuz of fan disinterest but Paramount's mismanagement.

Kurtzman Trek, starting with DSC, actually had great goodwill at the start.
Fans were excited but then they saw the product and now at the end, every single show except PIC went out with a whimper.
It's not that majority of fans hate Trek anymore, it's just complete apathy.
