Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

I mean season two alone we found out Picards mom committed suicide and he somehow forgot and convinced himself she lived until old age.
I love when people try and disparage a show and then try and cite a plot point but get major details wrong.

It's almost as if they never actually watched the thing they're complaining about.

I don't like PIC Season 2 (and that's putting it mildly) but Picard in Season 1 of TNG doesn't think his mother is alive. A vision of an elderly version of his mother appears in an Enterprise-D corridor thanks to Kosinski's warp field experiments and Picard believes he's talking to his long-dead mother.

Yes, she appears elderly in TNG, but she was already dead and later retconned to have her son imagining what she'd have looked like had she lived to old age. PIC Season 2 committed numerous sins, but this wasn't one of them.

Didn't get it wrong. I watched the entire season.

It was clear from picard season 2 that he had buried the memory of hks mother dying young by suicide. In TNG he clearly recognized the old woman as his mother. Its a huge plot hole. The writers dont care about continuity. Bad writing.

Did you though?

Explicitly stated he frequently imagined her getting old and having cups of tea with her and then he saw her when his thoughts turned real. His imagination which he would obviously recognise.

She wasn't real in the scene in TNG so no it isn't.

Bad analysis.

God, this thread proves the fact that Trekkers gonna bitch and moan all day long. I’m not blind to realize this show likely isn’t for me. But I’m still willing to actually watch a full fucking episode before I make a judgment call.
New to Trek fandom I assume?
(This has been the pattern since TAS premiered on NBC on Saturday morning on NBC in 1973. And I know because I was there. ;))

I nearly shat myself when the captain said "get to the kids" and the Jem'Hadar character just instantly vanished. My friend has informed me that's a Discovery thing and they just teleport around the ship in emergencies now instead of walking.

I couldn't stick Discovery out and I forget if I ever got far enough to see that myself, but I like it a lot, it's something I always wish they did in the older shows. GOOD JOB, DISCOVERY
