Star Wars Rebels Season Two (spoilers)

There's no need for any of that. The only reason that stuff even existed in the first place was so people with the militant canon-completist mindset could pretend Attack of the Clones didn't blow Boba Fett's Tales of the Bounty Hunters backstory out of the water. But it did.

Given that the old EU is gone I don't see any particular reason to go back to that mess.
I didn't say it's needed, just wondered if they'll decide to go that route. It nothing else, it might serve a function of tying Fett back into Mandalorian society somewhat, since TCW basically turfed him and his father out.

Personally, I don't particularly care either way. I was never terribly enamoured with how convoluted the EU got in it's attempts and I like that they cleared the decks.

That said, it could potentially be an interesting and unexpected way to re-introduce Fett. Westerns are very much part of Star Wars's DNA and having him show up as a retired gunslinger turned backwater lawman has "Old West" written all over it.

KoTOR, actually. The one's in SWTOR are a bit different (the engines are more inspired by the Blockade Runner.)

Still, I get the impression that these were scaled down quite a bit from the original designs, so they're probably not meant to be *exactly* that type of ship, but something very similar.
I geeked out a little seeing the cruisers from KOTOR, and yet at the same time I'm thinking, "Really? They're still using ship designs that are THOUSANDS of years old?" It's pretty laughable how static technological advancement is in the Star Wars universe.

It's to be expected in a galactic civilization that's been around for at least a thousand generations. While there have certainly been advancements (and probably more than a few setbacks) over the millennia, there's a limit to how advanced things can get. Also consider that while conflict can certainly spur on technology, it can also impede it. With all the galaxy wide conflicts over the centuries, much would have been lost and gained in the to and fro of war.

Think of it this way, the basic design of the wheel hasn't changed much since it first appeared something like five or six thousand years ago. Sure, the materials have changed, building techniques have been refined (the vast majority having occurred in only the last couple centuries--really it changed very little for several millennia) but the basic design and function is essentially unchanged. A wheel is a wheel.
Likewise, a starship is a starship. They're only transports after all, it's not like they have to push the bleeding edge of technical proficiency.

Besides, it's entirely possible the ships are themselves thousands of years old. As static as the technology is it also appears to be very robust. There's certainly a precedent as during the Clone Wars, at least one of their training ships the Jedi were operating had been in service for at least a thousand years.

I do sometimes wonder if part of the reason some things seem not to change is because certain technologies only come from droid foundry worlds that have been churning out the same components for uncounted centuries. The principles behind the designs forgotten in the gulf of history and the original plans long since lost except to the memory banks of the foundry computers, who's format is so archaic as to be unreadable by modern systems.
There could be some things that nobody understands the underlying principles any-more, but know perfectly well how operate it.
Such is the perils of robust technology and an over-dependence on automatons.

Or it is a similar design. Note how similar designs are in Star Wars over the decades and millennia. There are ships that looks like Star Destroyers the distant past, and ships that look like the Blockade Runner in about every time period.

Yeah, it's not an exact copy of the one from KOTOR, but obviously inspired by it.

^Clearly.
Mind you one could argue that the near identical paint scheme and the heavy weathering seems to imply that the intent is for these transports to hail from roughly the same era.

I had completely forgotten that Sabine's last name is Wren. I'm assuming it's purely a coincidence, but it is still ironic.

Good timing with the references to Kanan #10, with that comic being released on the same day that this week's Rebels episode aired.

Take this with a grain or two of salt, but there is a rumor that season three will introduce EU favorite...

... Grand Admiral Thrawn...

...into the new continuity.

It be nice. Not like that character has to be tired to the Heroes of Yavin. If it happens I hope they do the character justice. Because even in failure the character is usually winning on some level.

Also be nice to have a successful antagonist that is not a Force user.

One that the audience isn't sure will survive with the new canon. Tarkin has to live to A New Hope.

Agent Kallus so far has that role.

It could certainly work as they've already established a little intra-service rivalry between the naval officers and the ground forces. Having a major character in the form of an Imperial Admiral show up could work well in that dynamic. Tarkin is a Moff and so he's a little too far up the ladder for that to work.

Honestly though, if they're going than route then I think it's more likely they'd go with Admiral Yularen. He's an old regular from TCW and is still loyal to the Empire by the time of ANH (he's in the conference scene on the Death Star.)

That rumor keeps popping up and it hasn't been true, I doubt it will be this time. I'm not going to believe it until I actually see him on screen.

I hope they hold that character back.
There were rumors that another animated series would take place between episode VI and VII once rebels is finished. That would be a cool character to keep until then.
