Star Wars Rebels Season Two (spoilers)

Lucas never made a secret of the fact that he was making a tribute to the movie serials of his youth, both with SW and Indiana Jones. The whole format of Star Wars -- the "episode" titles, the opening crawls, the '40s-style screen-wipe scene transitions -- is a blatant homage to those serials. Between SW, Indy, and American Grafitti, it's hardly controversial to say Lucas's career is based on nostalgia.

Bennett is right, Lucas never tried to hide this. Star Wars has even been called "Hidden Fortress in Space", for crying out loud.

I'm not saying Star Wars wasn't a good idea, just that it wasn't a particularly innovative one.

Not particularly innovative, compared to what?!?

The wheel.

Well, the wheel was revolutionary.

Seriously, though, pretty much everyone knows that Star Wars has a heavy dose of nostalgia. Being nostalgic and being based on works such as The Hidden Fortress hardly implies a lack of innovation.

We could diss all kinds of works with similarly unfair one-sided critiques: Gone with the Wind is just a soaper set in the American Civil War; Apocalypse Now is just Heart of Darkness set in Vietnam.

Ultimately, the titles are fitting. Star Wars focuses on the military and revels in myth and Star Trek revels in the journey with a focus on exploration. Or something. I dunno.

Hey, we may have missed this: season 2 premiere has a title! Was wondering how soon we'd see the ol' clones that we saw in the trailer from spring. Can't imagine how they will rationalize Order 66 to Kanan. I love that we are going to see this stuff unfold!

This.

"Innovation" and "originality" aren't synonymic.

I thought "The Siege of Lothal" was the season 2 premiere. Production-wise, it's episodes 201-202. Although Wikipedia lists both it and "Spark of Rebellion" as "films" separate from the seasons proper.

Obviously the "friend" is Rex. The reason for her emphatic urging that Kanan trust him probably has something to do with Rex having the same face as the guy that gunned down Kanan's master in cold blood, right in front of him. I think it's fair to say Kanan has reason to dislike clones.

I'm more interested in where Ahsoka is going for her answers. Personally, I'm thinking she's off to go see Obi-Wan...or if she doesn't already know, to Bail so he'll tell her where Obi and/or Yoda are hiding out.

I hope she goes to see Obi. The can talk over a cup of blue milk. It would an easy way of getting him on the show without injecting him into the story.

Besides, I just finished a Final Fantasy X run. I need to be reminded why I like James Arnold Taylor.

Well we have already seen/heard Yoda directly communicate from very long distance, so that's certainly a possibility.

It's unclear though if a person has to be in close proximity to a force nexus of some kind like Dagobah or the caves beneath the Lothal temple since those are the only places we've seen it work.

So far as I can recall, the closest we've seen is the exchanges between Luke, Vader & Leia at Bespin and that was more about projecting feelings rather than straight-up telepathy.

So yeah, maybe Ahsoka isn't going to Dagobah, Tatooine or Alderaan but to a place where she can commune in the force. Perhaps the old temple they've said she got her "new" (read:ancient) armour and lightsabers.

I guess they are... (The Lost Commanders included) both the premiere?

Rebels is moving to Wednesdays? Star Wars Rebels is coming back on Wednesday, October 14th at 9:30pm!

Disney can do whatever it wants as long as it keeps the syringe full.

I lol'd at this one! Agreed - the fever that I crave each episode of Rebels is far more than The Clone Wars. Not sure why but probably because TCW moved from protagonist to protagonist (and sometimes anti-hero) enough that it was easy to feel satisfied. It's near Breaking Bad levels of intensity for me. Hope I'm not alone in this feeling!

Some really delicious spoilers from the review of the Season 1 Blu Ray:
The season 2 look ahead is 7 minutes long with some great commentary and explanations by Director Dave Filoni. This feature is essentially a 4 minute documentary with three minutes of the trailers for season 2 and new footage. We see some great Darth Vader concept art and the new Inquisitors all the way down to Sabine’s new hair. We get some teases about the backstory of Hera and her father, a mysterious new bounty hunter, the new B-wing. Zeb dealing with his past will also come up again in future episodes. We learn that Season One’s Inquisitor was the Grand Inquisitor and now we’re seeing normal Inquisitors hunting our heroes in Season Two. I highly recommend watching this first if you have already seen Season One of Rebels. They also tease Darth Vader being confronted by Ahsoka and show a brief montage of concept art (I noticed Rex from Star Tours!). It ends with the Season 2 trailer.

Retroactive info about the Inquisitor is interesting. I wonder if the "big" confrontation is something we'll have to wait all season to see? Hope not. Would like to see that interaction right before TFA opens... and I'm guessing here that a mid season break will complement Dec 18's release.

Not sure about how they would mix Obi Wan in... my guess is Ahsoka hasn't seen Obi Wan since the last time she saw Anakin.
