I'm apprehensive about this episode. I'm trying to go in with an open mind, but considering what we've had this season already, I kinda just want a normal episode of Star Trek and not a "special" episode. And this is coming from a guy who did actually like the Hangover episode.

In-universe, the transporter turning people into a muppet that can still see, hear, taste, smell and touch is basically transforming someone into an entirely new lifeform. There would be tons of implications in-universe. Just the Gorn egg thing for example. Gorn eggs can't be removed--but can the Gorn eggs even survive if a transporter turns the host into a muppet?

Do muppets age? Do they still have diseases that they had in their original forms? M'Benga's daughter might've had a perfectly feasible life as a muppet if that was the only way to halt her disease instead of literal non-existence in transporter stasis.

Like many other shocking technological developments in Trek (like transporters miraculously de-aging people in Rascals), this will be a one episode thing and never mentioned again.

I am not looking forward to this episode. I fear it is going to be too dumb and too gimmicky. I think SNW is doing too many of these "special" episodes based on a gimmick. It also hurts that we don't get a lot of episodes per season anymore. If there were 24 episodes per season, having 1-2 per season be a gimmick ep would be fine. But when you only have 10 or so episodes per season, the gimmick eps take up a lot more space. I really wish we could get more sophisticated Trek again, ie episodes with interesting scifi or social concepts.

If this was an intentional attack by the Orion pirates seen in the trailer to keep the crew out of action without actually killing them, then I think that would work better than the muppet transformation being an accidental thing. In fact it is pretty strange that we don't see villains weaponizing the transporter more often and this would be a change of pace if that were the case.

Im guessing some crewmember gets a collectible puppet mixed in with a beaming or something ridiculously dumb. They stole this puppet based episode idea from the Angel tv show. Someone really loves Josh Whedon. Don't the writers have any original ideas left for this show? Every episode this season is an obvious take or homage to a superior movie or tv show.

I expect this to be very entertaining. It allegedly won't be played as comedically as Legends of Tomorrow during their puppet episodes but that's okay. SNW is quite adept at sweeping me along for the ride.

This would be the funniest possible time to bring back Pike's foreknowledge of the future.

We all know Angel was one of the first shows to do it. Glee, Community and legends of tomorrow all did one as well. Where characters were actually turned into puppets. Voyage to the Bottom of the sea had a puppet episode but the crew wasnt turned into them. Vincent Price brought puppets to Entertain the crew. They were "alive" and he used them to take over the ship.

Angel was a Fantasy show. Star trek used to be Scifi fiction. Now it's Science fantasy I guess. IDK and don't care at this point......
