What was the thing with the knives that scarred him? I recall the event but not really any of the details.

Looking back at Berman-era Trek, some of those episodes (particularly late season TNG) are so slow and staid that I genuinely cannot rewatch them.
The pendulum has swung completely the other way with SNW …(for me that is).
As I have said earlier there are just so many episodes that I won’t ever watch again.
Slow and staid are gone but wacky and zany are hardly any better.
Remember when Trek used to have serious sci-fi writers submitting scripts? Is that undoable now?

Yeah. The comedy is really bad. They showed Spock seeing Scotty and Ortega as plants and than later showed Ortegas as a plant again. Its like we get it Spock is seeing them as plants. It wasnt even funny. It honestly just looked weird. In old trek if they were to do that joke(they wouldnt) Spock would just say he sees them as plants. Not showing it. Just looked really dumb.

We are going to be served up a puppet episode and supposedly a soap opera. Two more most likely surrealistic comedy episodes. So much for exploring alien worlds or space phenomena this season

I haven't rated this one but I think it's time. 1.

This. I still remember the criticisms against Discovery, and very few of them seemed like "personal opinion expressed calmly" to me, but more like "Attack against woke/feminism/progressivism under the guise of talking about a TV series."
There was an absolute ton of valid criticism. You are seeing what you want to see.

Nobody I know personally likes it and we are all "woke".

It was hilarious.

Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

DS9 will always be my favorite for various reasons, but I still enjoy TOS to this day. I think what they were able to achieve in the time period they did, with such miniscule resources is remarkable. I can turn on anything from the first season and a half and be entertained. The last part of the second season is when I started noticing a drop. Some story ideas were being rehashed too many times : eg: crew kidnapped by god like beings or mysterious planet has a civilization built around a time in past earth history.

No show is perfect.

Yeah it truly is incredible that in the 60s with limited resources and roddenberry constantly at odds with the network and even the writers he hired it really was a miracle we got so many good episodes that are still great today. Look at Where No Man Has Gone Before. No one can convince me its an out of date not so good television for today. It holds up remarkably well and I still watch it at least once every year or two. So good. We havent gotten anything that good in all of the kurtzman era in my opinion.

The accepted abbreviations are "DIS" (or "DSC") and "PIC". No one has ever called Star Trek Voyager "STV" or Star Trek Enterprise "STE."

I call star trek voyager STV and used STE as well. I think it really is a personal preference.

Do I really need to count how many people here referred to Discovery as "STD"?

How much weight should I give to the opinion of someone who calls a series like a venereal disease?
Actually that is kind of funny. They really walked into that one when they gave the ship name something that starts with a D. Even if the show was universally loved people would be poking fun with the pun. Biggest mystery is how they didn't catch it in the early stages of creating the show.

I guess its possible they knew but didn't care. It's not a big deal in my opinion.
