Too recent..
Preservers lived thousands of years ago. The martians would have gone extinct or evolved into something else, or bred with other races...

I think everyone here would say that Sol V had to be destroyed to protect the future and everyone here would have made that choice. But the harder decision for the Captain would have been the opposite, that he couldn't wipe out a civilization just to protect his own...Pike did both things at the end of the episode.

He'd make a good timelord then.He wasn't just protecting his own civilization, he was protecting everything that happened in that area of the galaxy over the next sixty-five million years.
Oh, I completely get that. Not just his own, thousands of others....there would be so many civilizations that would rise and fall between then and the 23rd...that would cease to exist from history if he stopped them.

But ultimately, the easier/safer choice right? It was a hell of a hunch to play. I didn't think they had the writing chops to pull off something like this.

I'm wondering if we might see the Martians again before the end of the season
