This is all just assumption. I don’t recall there ever being some sort of “medical standby status” ever mentioned in any of the shows before.

I am really starting to think the best way to resolve this series is to have Pike 'wake up' in the chair on Talos in the finale, and casually remark to the Talosians: "That was great, but the Enterprise didn't look quite right..."So, thus far this season, we've gotten the Gorn, Roger Korby, Trelane (son of Q), a holodeck, discussion of the Romulans, mention of sehlats and Vulcan katras, and probably even more TOS firsts that I'm forgetting. If they ever do that Star Trek Year One series with Kirk taking over the Enterprise, they'll have to change the show's tagline to "To Boldly Go Where Pike's Enterprise Has Already Gone Before."
Easily the best episode of the season.
This is where the fast talking Ortegas is used properly. She basically has to carry that part of the story and she clearly does. I feel though they could have pushed another scene of Ortegas coming to grips with her PTSD, but I still feel good where it went.
The Metron ending, which feels a lot like the Organians appearance on Enterprise, at least attempted to wave away their appearance with the mind wipe and that they "need more data." While I don't hate it, I don't think it was necessary.
The extraneous stuff is the rest of the crew. Number One is reduced to being the Commissioner from "The Galileo Seven," there to keep Pike apprised of his other mission. Pike's admission that we were going to look for Ortegas anyway is something you knew they would do. None of it is bad, just uninteresting.
I would have preferred to have the entire episode after Ortegas crashes be on that moon until La'an's team just appears. Ortegas is one of the characters that we don't know the future of and the stakes and tension could have felt real.

But kill still seems pretty certain to me.
The only thing I can tell is that the poor Gorn Pilot died.
But the shots fire only punched small holes in the Gorn body.
We've seen what Kill setting looks like on Phasers, usually it's far more Gruesome & Graphic.
So I can't say for certain that it was on Kill.
But there are plenty of settings between Stun & Kill.

Missed opportunity: a post-credit scene of Gorn feasting on Metrons.
You don't need to, it's called SOP's (Standard Operating Protocol's / Procedure's).
I'm sure StarFleet would've developed plenty of SOP's like any large organization by that point.
Especially for dealing with a rescued / recovered pilot.
The Medical Team would have theirs as well.
Don't forget that they were on limited time, the Enterprise can't hold the Worm Hole open forever, and they need to extract Ortegas out ASAP and return to the ship.
Again, that’s all supposition that’s not supported by what we’ve seen in the episode.

Wait, something just occurred to me. Were M'Benga or Chapel even in this episode?
Overall I enjoyed it. The ending with the Gorn was sad but I think justifiable. As others have said, I do hope they bring up this up between La'an and Ortegas at some point and not just forget about it.
Others may complain about this season, but I have enjoyed every episode in one way or another. At the very least the showrunners feel they can do other things than just only paint by the number episodes, even if this one was more "safe" and similar to a few past episodes of different Trek series.

They were not that I can recall.
Nope. In the old days that would sometimes be an indicator that they would have a particularly heavy role in the following week's episode and needed more time devoted to working on it. I wonder if that'll be the case for the finale.
Touché! Identical episode. All it needed was the Ship of Lights to come along at the end and tell Starbuck it was all a dream...Im shocked with all the talk of Enemy Mine that more people are not mentioning the OG crashed pilot buddies.
I think Ortegas mentions M'Benga cleared her for duty. That's it for team medbay.

Fine. I was trying to make the list of recycled TOS elements as comprehensive as possible to head off any potential "You forgot about..." comments at the pass, but if it bugs you, ignore the sehlat.
The katra thing I'll stand by, though, since Vulcans are exceptionally secretive and no one on the Enterprise crew had previous familiarity with them in TSFS. Suddenly in SNW, it's common knowledge.
If you have to resort to a lame device like "...And then the space alien erased or altered everyone's memories!" to make your continuity match with a previous show, it doesn't "track perfectly."
Again, Better Call Saul has demonstrated that it's completely possible to make a great, dramatically compelling prequel show that doesn't contradict its parent show. (Occasionally recontextualize, yes. but not contradict.) So SNW has no excuse for getting things wrong or ignoring stuff willy-nilly.

That VOY scene STILL bugs the hell out of me. The "Of course, the whole bunch of them would be booted out of Starfleet today" line is SO condescending and smug, and a pretty disrespectful thing to put into an episode celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Trek.
I am 100% convinced that the finale of SNW will skip past or retcon the end of "The Menagerie" somehow to give Talos IV Pike a happier ending.
Ortegas: Hey if it isn't little Miss Murderer, acting just like grandpa Khan. Did your boytoy dump you once he realized you'd be repulsive to him even while he's in Pon Farr?
La'an: If you love Gorn so much, I heard Captain Batel is looking to have an affair with a Gorn lover.

Agreed.
Because the system the Borg have for doing so already is still more efficient. (If it wasn't they'd 'adapt' it more.)
