I do not agree with this argument.
This is not just a show, it is a part of a whole universe that many people love and have followed for decades.
They have every right to share their opinion. I do not believe it is hate watching or trolling.
Mostly frustration.
Instead of telling them not to watch it, you can simply not read their posts that seem to annoy you. After all, Star Trek was never as serious for you.

Plus it is nice to read different opinions about the same topic. It is fascinating.

You misunderstood my post. That is fine.
It is definitely hate watching though. Purposefully watching something you dislike AND posting whole rants online..... Definitely a healthy lifestyle.

In fairness, poster is not shouting these things in a subway car or in the lobby of my apartment complex. They're posting them in a forum exclusively devoted to discussing the show that the poster is complaining about. No need to pathologize that just to win an argument.

Actually, I'd really like to hear a wide range of viewpoints on any given episode or series, including both extremely negative and highly positive ones. That includes TOS through Enterprise.

If I just want my own views repeated endlessly back at me, we have LLMs for that now.

But there's already plenty of that here. Going on and on about how you don't like the show and how it's such a blight on Star Trek isnt the same thing.

Theres definitely a difference between speaking your mind about being critical of a series and suggesting that you dislike it so much that you want to keep watching to “help make” it better.

Still don’t know how that works.
And I don’t know it’s productive.

Like I said upthread, didn’t like Picard season three. Still tried to find and name positive things in my initial watch of it.

This episode was a complete stinker. How is Anson Mount so bad as his holodeck character? He might be even more disappointing than Scott Bakula. I thought both guys would knock it out of the park, but nope.

Who ever wanted a Star Trek show with a major focus on Spock's love life?

And while the Riker Maneuver was actually pretty funny... but why the fuck are they paying Kirk 3.0 to mock our beloved Bill Shatner? Insanity.

There was no attempt to make quality television here. This reeks of the writers wanting to be friends with the cast, "everybody let's just have fun" and the result is predictably awful.
Although fans are so picky and fastidious in the extreme that even when we get a basic starship-exploring-unknown space show like Enterprise many of them spend four years decrying it as "not real Trek" and saying it violated continuity every week because, well, we never knew there was an Enterprise between the ringship and Kirk's ship until 2001. When we got a big budget series set on a starship of exploration and mapping the galaxy they still weren't happy.

Even if another TNG-style episodic show were produced it'd be lambasted before it even premiered. That's the Internet Age and the self-perpetuating Nerd Anger Machine.
Nah, they cut a decent trailer and have the show look good, people will get on board. Latest example: Battlefield 6. Everybody is hyped after a couple of missteps in the last few entries of the franchise. Why? Because they're actually listening to Battlefield fans, instead of arrogantly telling them what they should want. And they're seemingly executing on the vision. Still not sure if the final product will be good, but the vast majority of players are optimistic.

Heck, people were mostly sold on the SNW concept as far as I could tell with the caveat of some obvious reservations about spinning off of a total turd like Discovery. And then they threw out a trailer that led with Pike making a stupid effeminate face and saying "Hoiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" in his best SNL It's Pat! impression. Dislike "Nerd Anger" all you want, but let's not pretend there is more merit in uncritical bootlicking.

At what point did he say he didn't?
Ahh yes of course, and right after the turbolift doors closed, Scotty corrected Geordi, "Ackshully laddie who's to say I dinna invent the bloody thing *wink*". Really one of the worst kind of retcons. All to have a holodeck episode of all things.

Everybody on the Ent-D was in awe of the Holodeck, and not just in a "wow can you believe we have one of those holodecks just like on earth or at a big space station" kind of way. Not to mention LaForge was talking to an elderly Scotty, so holodecks had to be a thing for like 40+ years of his life at that point. Which would just makes LaForge look like a fool. It would be like if you found a dude that was stranded on a desert isle since the 1990s, took him back home to Los Angeles, and was like "BEHOLD, THE HORSELESS CARRIAGE" as you gestured maniacally at a Toyota Corolla.

I mean, if the technology was shelved after this and then brought back at a later date it wouldn't be known to everyone and everyone still could be amazed with it. Someone in this thread talked how certain things were invented in real life well before they were actual commonly used, such as air conditioners.

Holodecks have already been one of the franchise's worst continuity issues, well before this episode came along. Yes, everyone acts in awe of them in TNG S1, but the we have the Voyager characters talking about using holodecks when they were children. And then Lower Decks has the characters in awe of the holodecks again, even though at this point, they're not new at all. Though I suspect Lower Decks was making a meta joke about this inconsistency.

You do know SNW has been cancelled right? 6 eps for S5 and then done. Can't you take the fucking win and leave the rest of us alone? All your complaining doesn't mean more Trek. It means LESS.
Its going to continue with a continuation of the tos years. We all know that. Something i dont want. The franchise can't stop looking at the TOS crew.
Uhhh… how does that work?

<leans in and whispers> Are you Alex Kurtzman?

Us classic trekker/trekkies know how it works..

Sure, that could almost make sense if they portrayed it as top-secret military tech that gave Starfleet a competitive advantage. But they brought it for its common use case of R&R. And didn't get it to work because of power/cpu limitations on a ship that wouldn't be a concern in other settings.

But let's say you jump through all the mental hoops in order to have it make some sort of logical sense in the Trek universe. The holodeck is there in that first episode of TNG as a "look how far we've come" kind of thing. It's the Next Generation. It's extremely unsatisfying to watch a recycled Moriarity plot on the pre-Kirk Enterprise in that context.

Exactly. When I first watched tng I thought wow look how far they've advanced since the 24rd century. Large quarters, luxurious ship, amazing holodeck. But SNW has ruined all that. They even have a more advanced viewscreen, briefing room and sickbay than the D. Frustrating to see them get this so wrong.
