Zombies are a hard sell for me so this episode might be a skip.
I'll watch every episode, but I'm wondering if I want to wait a day to see this episode and see if I'm in a better mood, or my grading might be more of a mood thing than the actual quality of the episode. I guess after last week I was hoping for like a spatial anomoly or maybe another venture into Time Travel or getting the episode where the humans turn into Vulcans over with. Honestly I wish there was another Lower Decks crossover coming because I really had a fun time with the last one and I miss the Lower Decks crew.

It ties into Batel somehow.

I hope she survives. I like the character.

I came into this episode kind of cranky today. I saw Zombies and just maybe something was going on today in life where I wasn't really looking forward to this episode. I'm not a horror fan and last week's 2 episodes were kind of a mixed bag so it felt like this episode already had some demarits to it just based on the plot.

However, this episode actually gave me what I wanted. They went to an alien planet, Erica got a lot to do in this episode and we are delving into her PTSD (I thought it was something more after last episode, but maybe not) and there was more to this plot than just beam down and face Zombies. Basically, I think I was expecting the SNW version of the Enterprise episode Impulse, with the photosensitivity lights and all. I'm glad that didn't happen, and I'm glad we got a sequel to Under the Cloak of War, which I just saw like 3 or 4 weeks ago to prepare for season 3.

This was the best episode of the season so far, probably one of my favorite episodes of the series, and I'm giving it a 9.

I think the only thing that detracts is we've been on this road before with Pike and Batel and I guess they can't get over the no secrets thing. I get her reasons, but yeah you probably should have told Pike something because he has been trying to meet you in the middle.

It’s up in Canada now. Not sure how long , I only just checked now

So maybe last week wasn’t a fluke
I guess we’re synced to the US release time now

The episode Teaser went by way too fast, almost like it was missing a scene or two. I appreciate storytelling brevity, but something in the setup didn’t feel right.

That shot of the D7 passing over the beacon was pretty epic

Still using the Discovery Disruptor rifles. But they did have more classic looking d'k tahgs.

The spoken Klingon still sounds like the Okrand Klingon used in Discovery

I enjoyed that. Had some classic horror elements, mixed with a bit of a moral dilemma. Plus some real character development for Ortegas. That, and some some gorgeous shots of the Enterprise and the D7, makes this a pretty good episode.

I will say that Una's hair in this episode might take the cake for the ugliest haircut I've ever seen in the franchise. Seriously. Somebody needs to rip that wig off her head before it comes alive and starts to multiply. That hairstyle was the scariest thing in this episode.

Wow.

I really went in thinking I wouldn't like this episode because of the Zombie aspect, but holy shit...

The episode was absolutely excellent. It had many twists and turns, and it definitely wasn't a story where you could figure out what was going to happen or where it was going to end up. <--- And I loved that.

Even the Klingon aspect made sense, and they had an actual good reason for being there. I also love that they followed up on the story from SNW Season 2 episode 8

It was also probably the most human and relatable that Starfleet characters have been written in a long long time.

We also finally see real consequences for insubordination, but it's also done in a caring fashion and not strictly by the Starfleet handbook, because what Erica Ortega's did was definitely a court-martial offense that could have ended with her in prison; but Una recognized that she's under duress because of what happened earlier on the Gorn Destroyer, so she's going to give Erica every chance to come out of everything as whole as possible.

I really enjoyed that this was a truly human and relatable episode; something that Star Trek rarely does.

This episode is now another one of my real favorites of SNW.

They really hit a home run with this one.

A 10 from me.

I was going to say something similar but I wasn't sure if it would come across well or not. I much prefer the hair down look. This look actually reminded me of Jadzia from The Search 2 parter.

It also feels really early for a "zombies, really?!" episode, that just doesn't give one much hope for show on it's 3rd episode of the third season of a five season run.

They better sell the premise well.
I mean we had a musical episode & a crossover episode (with a cartoon!) already in season 2.
Enjoyed both - but that was for me the sign that the current team is also doing Trek since a decade. Got a strange late VOY/ENT feeling.

But yeah.
Feels like SNW is less & less a traditional "science fiction show" with fun elements, and more of a genre hopping comedy using it's science fiction background as justification.

I like the idea of a Pike-M’Benga team up, I feel like we haven’t really had as much interaction between those two (since in “Lotus Eaters” they were kinda mind-fucked most of the time).
Back in season 1, I really was hoping for a regular Pike-M'Benga-Hemmer team-up on missions, the three "grown-ups", mirroring the Kirk-Spock-McCoy-trifecta from TOS, but with wildly different characterisations. But also.

I hope there is more than just horror elements to this episode. I'm not sure if I'm really in the mood for anything horror, and they just kinda opened the season with a horror episode too.
I always thought sci-fi & horror gel really well with eachother (not just since "alien"), as both are an exploration of "the unknown". And I immensely enjoyed ENT's Vulcan zombies episode (despite it not being really good) - just forvthe gimmick.

But yeah... zombies.
I really hope it's not just a gimmick episode. Of you have 25 episodes per season sure. But with just 10, it feels kind of "wasted" to not have a "real" episode (if that makes any sense).

Not a big zombie person either.

They've been done to death.
Underrated comment.

Hey, I'm not trying to be sexist or anything like that. It was just a damn ugly hairstyle and almost surely a wig. A very bad wig.
Some shots, I seriously thought Una was wearing a knitted cap. Not a great hairstyle.

To the rest of the episode, it moved like a damn freight train. It hit all the beats I wanted it to, but it left me thinking something was missing.
